So I was getting ready to head to Ross's house (in am in Amarillo TX) and after I put all my gear on I cannot find the key. (yes, I trailered it this far and will head to Slowrides house tomorrow)

Three wires, I am thinking the red is hot but what of the other two whit wires. Before I do this does anyone have words of advice?

"Eeny, meeny, miny, moe"

I will be home in 40 minutes and can give you a call with the FSM in hand to tell you wire diagram layout.

one is primary power feed, one is primary ground, then you have two leads, one to accesories, and one to ignition lines.

I believe....

On my 1997 S3 wiring Diagram:

RED is the power wire ...

RED with a BLACK TRACER is the IGNITION WIRE ...

Frank, I've done this before, twist all three wires together with a wire nut.

One is the +12VDC coming to the switch,
one is the +12VDC going to the ignition,
one is the +12VDC going to the lights

pretty simple...

Have fun and take lots of pictures.
Did you remember to bring Brad???

Thank you LaFayette and Loren... It was good talking to you again Loren..

Well, I broke camp and went to the auto parts store and got an ignition switch and key for a VW (you would be surprised at how many old VW parts you can use. So I got the body work off and drew quite a crowd here in the camp ground. I took everything apart and stripped the wires, before I installed the switch I was able to get it started. No problem, just like we talked about Loren. After I did that I remembered that I have done this on the ironhead a few times but I drank since those days and did not remember till I did it.

I was getting ready to install the switch and I notice the key chain in between the jugs (how did that happen)..

I feel like an ass and missed lunch with Phelan because of it.

I just finished putting everything back together.

Another idiot move I was able to accomplish; Some of the guys came over with flash lights since it was dark and I was struggling seeing everything. me, I have two flood lights on the camper. One of the guys said "hey, do those work?" I had to laugh and apologize.

I have now retired to the camper and getting ready to hit the sack. It is days like this that I am thankful that because on the Internet, the Old School Buell Riders, Cell Phones and wheels you can accomplish just about anything. I wonder what tomorrow will bring due to my forgetfulness.

Today reminded me of an Airman that worked for me years ago and that would do good work but had to do it several times to get it right. When it came time to his performance report I wrote, "Sgt Franks has random sparkling performances."

PS, I got an email today, after I got here, wanting me to interview for a job on Friday that I applied about 6 months ago... you got to love the government. I will not be there.

LOL

Sounds like by the end of the day you had some very sparkling performances yourself. LOL Just have to love days like that. All and all doesn't sounds like any harm was done and we all know know how to get our bikes going when the key switch goes bad. I'm sure I will use the info at some point in my S2 and tuber adventures.

Have a blast down in GA, and yes take lots of photos.

Loren

No biggie Frank. I'll catch you on your way back in town next week. I got a new clutch cable put on mine (a spare braided line originally bought too short for my dad's FXD). It's about a foot longer than stock and looks funky but works fine. However I overtightened the fitting at the bottom so I'm leaking primary fluid (doh).
