getting ready to do XB rocker box conversion on my 99 m2. my question is in regards to head breathers, do they get blocked off or do i still leave them functional? Has anyone experienced any problems with this conversion? is it worth the time, money, and effort to do this? thanks for input. |

I found some SS allenhead bolts for mine, needed to hold carb. bracket. Money well spent. |

Just plug them as Charlie did with some solid bolts, allens look nice. A decent hardware store will have plain bolts that will fit it, or check the nut/bolt supply store for a nicer looking fastener to hold the carb bracket on. I found some button head allen bolts at the HD shop that look really nice... I've painted mine black to blend with the heads and bracket a little better (they were chrome). I can get the part number later today if you'd like it. Suggest some teflon tape to make sure they seal well and stay tight, clean the oil out of the threads with some q-tips or a scrap of shop rag or something. I had one shake itself out once on a long ride. |

What Buggles said.. The button heads look and work great. I found some stainless steel ones, don't remember where. Sorry.. I use Hylomar on the threads. No leaks and they don't back out. |

By removing the center section you also get to remove the umbrella valves, so there is better drainage back to the bottom of the engine. Routing the engine breathers out the top of the engine through pcv valves cuts the blow-by from the breathers quite a bit too. I still have to run mine to a catch can though. You also have one less gasket to have leak, though the new gaskets are a lot better than the old paper ones. Cosmetic benefit, breather lines are up and over the top of the engine so stay out of sight for the most part, helping for a cleaner over-all appearance.
