Wilson: That mount on E-bay says it will work on m2's through 98, Is that wrong? Mine is a '00 and I want to make sure I get the right thing! My wife is on Short Term disabilty recouping from Surgery ( thought she was going back to work this week but it looks like another week or so) so Money is tight!

I'll go ahead and say in hopes that I'm right (which usually isn't the case, but the wrong advice gets the right advice to the surface quicker, so I don't mind being wrong lol), but I am pretty sure that would have up no problems bolting up. I never did figure out why they went away from that design though...

So, I would buy it and try it, and if it didn't, sell it to someone here, I'm sure someone could use it.

It'll work as long as your bike doesn't have the 4th tiebar that the '99-up X1 and S3 have.

M2's never got that tiebar for some odd reason, only the FI tubers did.

A question for the mechanical engineering types...Would stainless steel make a suitable material for a custom replacement? A friend is making up a small batch, and I am considering picking one up for a spare, considering I have 3 tubers in the garage at this point...

Can anyone explain to me why after bolting this part to the head you can't also weld to prevent vibration causing the bolt to snap or back out?

Fuzzz:

STAINLESS STEEL IS GOOD !!!

Kaz5150:

IMHO, there is no reason to weld the motor mount bracket to head ???

Proper assembly and installation are the answer ...

FRONT MOTOR MOUNT Class 101, per your request, just PM me ...

Mick, can't remember as it was a while ago. About 6 or 7mm as I recall. It was just to take the shear stress if the bolt broke/loosened/whatever. I also committed heresy by using antiseize on the bolts instead of loctite. I know, I'm going straight to hell. However, I've done about 12,000 km and I always look at the left hand bolt head now when mounting and dismounting the bike, just to be sure I'm onto it if it backs out. I reckon you could do the same with a standard mount but the important thing, I think, is to make sure all is machined true and the threads are good (or repaired) as well as new bolts, of course. I haven't done enough kms yet to determine the long term viability but I think I'm on the right track. When all is said and done it looks like a daunting task but it's not really. The motors are a piece of piss to work on and dropping the front head is as easy as.
If it fails I'm just going to XB heads and a new NRHS mount to suit.

Regarding welding the mount to the head, I seem to recall that the rocker covers then can't be removed. Or something. It was a while ago that I did it.
