I have stock bars on my X1, and at 5'9", its a bit of a reach and a bit uncomfortable on the wrists and elbows after a long ride. I've seen that several people are running clubmans and others, but any specifics on the rise, etc. from comparable sized riders? I'd like to retain an aggressive riding position without sacrificing (too much) comfort/control. Thanks! |

S3T bars are a bolt-on, and were the answer for me. More upright seating, shorter reach to the bars, still have good control, and can move around a bit on longer rides. You may have to fiddle the clutch cable a bit, but it is long enough. Dave |

IMO, S3T bars would make highway speeds very uncomfortable. The X1 seems to have a good balance of aggressive riding position and lack of wind protection. It feels good at highway speeds. I rode Oklahoma City to Milwaukee and back last year with stock bars, select seat, and millennium pegs. Have you tried dropping the windscreen all the way down so the clamps are sitting on the lower triple tree? For me, that calmed down the turbulent air down around my helmet and moved it to my chest, where it does a good job of keeping weight off my wrists.

Thanks Philip - I might give that a shot before I invest in bars. |

PK- Nice bike! Will have to try the windscreen thing. Ibby- A few rough measurements show the S3T bars are 2ish inches higher at the center. The bar ends are the same distance apart. The S3 bar ends are about 1in higher from the ground and 1in closer to the seat than the stock bars. Not much, really, but made a great difference. For me, the problem w/the stock bars was the reach to them, not the weight on my wrists. As always, YMMV. Dave |

Akbuell-I suffered the same dilemma - more of a reach, therefore strangely leaving my inner elbows sore. Although, as a follow up, I must say that adjusting the windscreen has made a tremendous difference - particularly on rides where I am consistently at speeds that let the wind "balance" my weight/reach on the bars. I noticed a big difference in wind to the body at first, though it feels completely natural now. We've experienced some unusually mild weather for this time of year in MO, and I've taken advantage of it. Several 200+ mile rides, and no sore elbows or tingling fingers since - best (and least costly) mod yet! Thanks for your help guys! |
