Just took my clutch apart to remove the dreaded spring plate(hoping it was still intack) The thing looked brand new.About twenty thousand on the clock. A friend gave me a clutch pack he replaced in a Harley, said they were the same(it wasn't) So if anybody has a couple of steels and one fiber(in good condition) laying around, would be glad to purchase them from you. Thanks in advance, Charlie |

I'd recommend replacing the entire set to reduce clutch squeal. They're not that expensive. Your clutch engagement window will also be reduced. I had 35k on my bike when I replaced the grenade plate and it looked perfect too.. |

Well Sloppy, I may not have a choice. I can buy the steel plates separate but don't know of any outfit that sells fiber plates separate. The original clutch is showing almost no wear and I wouldn't hesitate putting it back. It lives a some what gentle life.LOL |

i just replaced the spring clutch with another disc and metal plates, not happy with it. if i did it again i would just get another oem spring disc. unless you want to spend the coin on that power clutch thing that reduces the lever pressure on your hand. i city ride frequently, and getting stuck in traffic is no fun with a stiffer clutch lever. my .002 |

The Barnett Extra Plate kit is sweeeeet! All new steels and fibers, with a better feel at the lever and better hook up, IMHO. |

4ork, Not sure what you have but after changing out the clutch spring plate for two steels and a fiber, my clutch pull is the same. It's a little bit grabby, but after a few starts you get the feel and all is good. Made a spring compressor out of a three inch pvc cap and a couple of two inch fender washers. Cost about $2.50 Bought two steels and a fiber from Low Country(thanks Mike) and used same clutch, works great. |

As a casual drag racer, I haver not yet read anything that convinces me that this mod is the way to go (for me). Drag racing requires that you have the ability to gradually engage (slip!) the clutch in a smooth and repeatable way. In all of the threads I have read on this mod, whether the owner was satisfied with the change or not, it has sounded like a recipe for unwanted wheelies and slower 60' times. Am I wrong? |

I honestly don't see a difference between the before and after. Only now my bike can hold a clutch adjustment after it's done and I don't have to worry about rivets and spring pieces tearing up my clutch basket and clutch plates anymore. I do not see any grabby releases, no accidental wheelies. I can still slip my clutch with the lever as I please. My bike is stock so I don't have over 100 hp like a drag bike would. Anyone else want to add their experience? JiM2 |

Leaving the spring plate in guarantees basket failure....especially if you are racing. |

Scott, When I said a little bit grabby, I wasn't saying it was something you couldn't control. It's just a different feel, after a couple of minutes you have the feel down and all is good. Have some more Kool-Aid. |

"FYI", new female riders complained about the BLAST clutch not being smooth ... The BLAST clutch now has a UP-DATE for it to be a smother relase'ing clutch ... The XB clutch is same as the BLAST clutch with a few more clutch plates ... The reason for the SPRING PLATE(grenade plate) in the SPORTSTER clutch was so it would be better for female riders ... |

I honestly don't see a difference between the before and after. That's good to know Only now my bike can hold a clutch adjustment Never had that problem I do not see any grabby releases, no accidental wheelies. again, good to know about the release, I've never had an accidental wheelie except at the track. And is it really accidental when you are trying to get everything out of it you can on a surface that you shoes stick too? Leaving the spring plate in guarantees basket failure....especially if you are racing. So why does most everyone report 30K to 50k miles on them? It won't cause a basket failure if I replace it before it breaks. FYI I have 20K on my bike and maybe 100 passes. I wasn't saying it was something you couldn't control I have well above average clutch and throttle control thank you. My best 60' times are in the 1.70's. You guys who have not been to the strip need to go before you can truly understand my point - the better the clutch works as a rheostat instead of a switch (up to the point where it won't hook up), the better your 60' time and the easier it is to be consistent. "FYI", new female riders complained about the BLAST clutch not being smooth ... So they didn't put it in until what - the 80's or 90's when they actually started marketing to woman? No offense, but I don't believe this statement to be true... I have heard of very few "grenade plates" on the site actually grenading and I do not accept common knowledge as fact without digging in - so no offense to anybody who loves this mod just looking for the facts... |

You can not really appreciate the mess it makes in your clutch basket or the $$$.$$ figure it takes to fix the mess until it happens to you ... |

I have the barnett race clutch and there is a spot in the clutch release range that will accidentally wheelie the bike. But there is some engagement room and you can feel it hook up before it starts to wheelie. I can tell the difference from the stock clutch to the race clutch only because i have a lot more power than a stock bike does. |
