So I'm on my way to AMA Vintage days, cruising down I90 at 85 or so in a driving rain when suddenly the bike takes on a new sound, starts vibrating like crazy, throttle sort of sticks and the steering gets weird. Did I mention this was in a monsoon like rain? So I pass a couple of cars, see a rest area, get myself lined up and hit the kill switch at about 80 then glide into the rest area. I was worried something bad would happen when I got out of the throttle and some weight transferred to the front end. Well lets just say my ride was over. Can you spot the missing link in this pic?
The question I have is, in addition to replacing the mount with the one Al sells, what else should I do? Do the tie bars need replacing? Rear Isolators? maybe a 1250 kit (only to address oil leaks of course). The engine is fine, I only ran it the mile or so I needed to in cleveland. Just wondering what others have done. Funny thing is I just bought the updated front isolator kit..... but never got around to installing it Bike is a 2001 X1 with around 50,000 on the odo |

Funnything happened to me a few weeks ago... While riding with a group of guys in the Black Forest, my 99' S3T developed an odd vibration, it almost felt like grooved pavement, but the asphalt was smooth. We stopped a mile or so down the road at a Biergarten and I noticed my bolts (Both of them) had sheared off in the head, leaving the engine leaning forward against the mount. It let go with no warning and I was very distressed. I ordered the updated bracket from American Sport Bike ( it said NHRS on it) along with a new iso and bolts. The sheared off bolts came out easy with a little heat, and the new pieces just dropped right in. I hope this solves my problems forever. |

The American Sport Bike/NRHS bracket seems to be the permanent fix. Check the mounting bosses to make sure they are flat before you mount the new motor mount. Make sure you follow the instructions when torquing the bolts... The bulletin is in the KV somewhere... |

Ebutch, Thanks, I appreciate the offer, but I think I'm going to go with the monster NHRS solution from Al. I want this to be a permanent fix, well as much as permanent goes in the Tuber world. Vecchio, good luck, NHRS stood for Nallin Head Racing Service IIRC. They were big when BadWeb was little(r) , if that makes sense. Brad, hey nice profile photo, even nicer collection. i think you had the parkway blue beast last time I rode with you (homecoming 04 I think). If the bosses aren't flat do you dress them with a file? So I just ordered the mount and bolt kit from Al. I'll let you know how I make out. (Message edited by mbsween on July 30, 2010) |

Of course now I have to have a better explanation for buying this, after the Buell is fixed. I guess I'll tell her I needed something to pick up the parts with

Matt, you are correct! That really is the original Parkway Blue That is the original color before Sikkens messed up a batch of paint and turned it "purple". Erik confirmed that a few years back.. Re the filing part.. Preferred method would be to mill them both fat in the same plane. I suppose filing would work if you are very sure handed and careful I had my head off and milling was the easiest. One very light pass and all was good. Maybe about 8-10 thou total. I think the "rockered" faying surface could lead to another early failer if not corrected. The heavier mass of the NRHS mount must change the resonate freq of the mount so it doesn't rock back and forth.. Just a theory but it does make sense. |

That would be NRHS, as in Nallin Racing Head Service. |
