The front forks seals are shot on my S3. On Ebay there is a new set of new SHOWA forks for $249 and a new set of WP forks for $249 . Is there an advantage to the WP over the SHOWA ..? (Message edited by flyingfinn on July 27, 2010) |

Why pay $250 for new forks when you can just replace the fork seals and maybe the bushings if the teflon coating is starting to wear off? Both are good forks for regular riding; your shocks should be fine if you renew the seals and change oil. |

because forks depending on milage began to wear and then the hardening goes and you end up doing seals and they leak , so you just wasted 50 in parts a few hours labor when you could buy tubes and do the job once ... although with those sitting round for that long im not sure how plyable the seals are . has any one got em and run em yet ? |

I would only change forks if they got bent, seals are cheap. |

spend a little more and get race tech springs and a gold valve and have forks that are superior to new. |

+2 on Scott's post. did both on my bike and it was a MAJOR improvement. Unless you're 150 lbs, you're way undersprung. |

But if it's just weight, a heavier fork oil can make a difference, too. |

Heavier fork oil increases the available damping, but it does nothing to increase spring rate or set sag. The fluid level can be increased as this "stiffens" the "air spring" that is over the oil, but this does not help during smaller deflections. What the gold valve does for you cannot be faked and is sublime.... |

I've heard great things about the race tech springs and the gold valves, just like everyone has mentioned. So maybe you should look into that. I just bought the Showas on ebay your looking at, its a good deal for brand new forks. The major difference between them is the Showas have adjustments for compression and rebound on each tube. With the WP's, one tube is compression the other is rebound. The description in the ebay ad says the opposite. |
