I ordered a new set of forks for my S1W, which used WP. They ended up sending me Showa forks for a 99-03 S3. Other than the Showa's have an adjustment screw top and bottom, everything else looks the same, and I would think they will bolt up with no issues. But, which are better? Would S3 forks have stiffer springs, because they show a different part number for the same year X1? All things being equal, I am supposed to buy a set of emulators for a nice discount, but they apparently won't fit the Showa forks, as there is a different part number for them and WP. Anyone here know the difference? |

Harold, The race tech's will only fit the WP's. I know you can fit x1 forks, but not sure if s3 are same as x1. Others will know this. If they are same as x1's then it's a good choice for the s1w. HTH! (Message edited by fahren on July 09, 2010) |

Fahren, Yes I know the emulators for the WP won't work in the Showa forks, but they make both. It will cost me about $100 more to stick with the Showa forks because of the increase in cost of the emulators. But, after talking with Al at American Sport Bike, the Showa parts are cheaper, seals-bushings-etc. so unless someone can say the WP's with their single adjustment on each leg are better than the Showa's with both adjustments on each leg, I guess I will just bite the bullet again and keep the Showa forks. |

IMHO, you won't need the race tech stuff with the Showas. Saves cash 4 U :-) |

Does someone have the adjustment directions for the Showa fork? I can find the manuals here for bikes that have WP, but can't find the 99-03 S3 manual that would have the fork adjustment. The Showa doesn't have clicks, the screw has a little dot, and so does where it turns in. It has about 2-1/2 turns of total adjustment. Just pushing down on one fork leg, uninstalled, I can't feel any difference with either screw all the way in, or out. |

rebound (top screw )factory setting full damping ,turn in clockwise until it stops back off 0.5 turn. compression (bottom screw) factory full setting ,same as above, back off 1.75 turns. This is the S3 settings. |
