I've got a 2000 X1 that had the rear shock replaced during a recall back not long after the bike was new. I bought the bike second (third, actually) hand and want to adjust the suspension to suit me. Looking at the rear shock, I can't find any obvious way to adjust the pre-load. No threaded collar as is usually the case (even shows that in the shop manual which was obviously written before the shock recall). Can someone enlighten me as to what the technique is? Thanks | ||

there is a thread on the shock head, and threads on the can ( if one is present ) with a lock nut | ||

There is a big lock nut at the back of the shock that you need to loosen first and then you turn the nut behind it. As for the amount of preload for a given weight, you would need to refer to the owners manual or a higher authority...(experience) |
