I think my rear shock is in need of replacemnt. I have had the bike for two years now and it has about 25,000 miles on it. What options other than the oem replacement do I have, and I'm afraid to ask the price....... |

The choices are a Penske for $935.00 or a Works Performance for $699.00 to $905.00 depending on the options. The high price Works is about equivalent to the Penske. Prices are from the American Sport Bike web site they are good people and won't steer you wrong. |

Aftershocks and RaceTech will rebuild (and tune) them as well. But if you can find a brand new one on ebay for $200 you'll be saving quite a bit of money over a rebuild. |

Works also has an Ebay store you can get some pretty good deals from. |

I DO NOT recommend the Works shock. Penske is far better quality. Spend the extra money... |

I have a Penski on my S1 and it transformed the bike. I have a brand new most recent generation Showa on my S2 and it is not comparable at all. I have Works on my Guzzi but the bikes are not really comparable. I have had Ohlins and Fox on other bikes. The Penski is hands down my favorite shock. |

Why I don't like Works shocks: 1. Pre-Load collar is chrome so it's very easy for a spanner wrench to slip off while you're adjusting it. 2. The tools required for rebound and compression adjustments are different. 3. The remote oil tank uses a braided wire hose that is completely bare. Unless you protect the aluminum engine, the stainless braid will abrade whatever it vibrates against. 4. For a "custom" shock, the valve combination is horrid - I'm at my max for both compression and rebound settings. So much for a "customized for your weight and riding style". 5. The spring squeaks so you need to periodically lubricate it. Sure it's better than the stock unit, but for the price, you'd be better off with the Penske. |
