So I took my bike apart to clean it and to get the tank and parts painted. well on the first part I took apart was I took my borla exhaust off and started it and I like the sound. so I took it out to see how it effected the carb, and fuel, and it was a little off on the lower end but nothing major that could be felt. so my question is what are the ramafications of this and what should I look for exhaust wise when I get back from getting everything painted.. |

I'm assuming running a short open exhaust will result in lean conditions. Then again, I'm too dumb to poor piss out of a boot. |

Spontaneous disassembly can happen but maybe it will take awhile. I used to run a few snowmobiles and they run the best right before they need a new engine or major parts. |

well I mean regular sporster motors run straight pipes and usually have a small amount of baffling or some type of butterfly valve to create back pressure so why could it not work on these engines? just asking questions becuase I am new to all this... |

I run open pipes on my M2. I have a lollipop baffle installed in the end of the pipe and the carb is jetted with a 195 and a 45 with the e-clip on the dyno jet needle set at 5 with one very thin shim under it. I still don't like how it's running but with more tuning I bet I could get it set correctly. As of yesterday I still think I am running a bit lean as my electrode and contactor are more white than brown. It just takes trial and error. |

It's just a bolt with a washer welded on the end of it. Here's a picture of one. http://www.hdforums.com/forum/attachments/softail- models/55058d1246712976-lollipops-lilpops-005.jpg |

Straight pipes is just to much noise for me. I took my WileyCo (typical glass pack exhaust) and welded a stainless pipe half the length of the exhaust inside which effectively eliminates the use of half the packing. The bike runs great and sounds sweet at WOT. However when idling the little packing that still gets utilized keeps the sound down so I can ride in and out of my neighborhood without angering everyone. It's a nice balance of noise and respect for others. |

I can't speak for an M2 but my X1 runs much stronger, specially at the low end with baffle and packing vs. a hollow can. Besides, I got tired of having to push the bike all the way down the driveway to the curb away from the neighbors before firing it up in the morning.... |

Well I like. the noise and leave for work at 530...lol but yeah i am gonna put a full exhaust system on it. I have a Borla right now, but only the slip on so I am gonna be looking into a kooks or d&d system. |
