I finally finished putting together my 2002 X1W which I started taking apart 2 winters ago (I got sidetracked working on my 124" StreetGlide). I modified the headlight to a dual spotlight, fabricated brackets to fit a new windscreen, and pretty much blacked out all the aluminum on it (I did a flat black powdercoat using my home made setup/oven). Now I just have to fix that fuse that keeps blowing and also rewire the headlights cause they don't work. Here are a few pics.

Nice! How did you do the turn signals? |

The turn signals and rear light were painted with Duplicolor low gloss black high heat enamel. |

Now I am confused. Does any light show through? |

Yes, it does. I just did a very light, even coat to give it a "tint" more or less. I tried them and you can see the lights very well. Here is a closer shot of the ones I did on my StreetGlide to give you an idea, you can still see the lens color under the paint.

Just be careful, it is illegal in most states (although it looks great). |

I built the oven 4x4x4 to be able to coat bigger pieces. I welded a metal frame, the frame is built in sections so I can take the oven apart when not using it (ignore the propane heater, that didn't work). Then I fabricated the walls and top with sheetmetal. I used a small metal brake I have to bend the caps (I had to TIG weld the caps because my brake is only 30" long) and sandwiched 1-1/2" 800F insulation in there. I used 6 oven elements to heat the oven. I had an electrician friend help me put together a PID and solid state relay temperature control system. The oven runs off two 220v outlets.
