Thanks for any reply's. I have a 2001 M2 and 99-2000 and 2002 shop manuals. I just went thru the carb of the 2001 and if you flop the carb upside down there is a jet next to the float bowl and the intake gasket to the manifold. What the heck do I turn it out? The bike has a sidewinder intake and not a stock exhaust. The factory manual does not say anything about adjustment or spec's for it. In fact both manuals do not say or show anything about this screw. The tip of it is very fine also. Please let me know and thanks again. It was 1-1/4 out and I set it to 1-1/2 now. Also the factory manual exploded view for the jets does not really match the actual carb nor is there any mention of the adjustment of the above mentioned screw. This must be the idle mixture screw that is normally plugged EH. |

BUELLers: If you do not have the engine "CORRECTLY TIMED" you are waisting your time tune'ing the CARBURETOR !!! |

Can you PLEASE answer the question? I will be installing a fuel filter instead of relying on the screen in the tank. The float bowl was filthy (it sat for a bit) and the carb has been jetted in the past (200/54 jets) I just pulled it apart and went thru it and cleaned it up. So back to the original question. What should I turn it out or should I just do like the old 65 chev and turn it in till it misses and turn it out till it misses then park the damn screw in the middle. The timing is just fine it just would not idle otherwise it goes like a bat out of lleh. Hey THANKS though. (Message edited by Buell_Bert on June 22, 2010) |

Dang those are BIG jets, normal is 45/48 idle and 185 about on the main, best way to do it is with engine running, start at 2 turns out and adjust until idle is highest. There is a nice short driver made for this with knurled knob on bottom. |

Hey Thanks FiremanJim. The book says 195/42. I guess I'll do it like the old cars as I mentioned. Try the old in/out for the idle and cross my fingers. But I will write it down. I did end up pulling another carb and it still has the plug. I will pull the plug and see what that one is and as long as I'm there clean the carb up. Did not want to pull the other carb but it is to late. I may be impatient at times. Any other help will still be appreciated. |

On a STOCK engine, set the time'ing mark just coming into the rear of the timing plug hole ... Stock IGNITION, gap the spark plugs at 0.030 ... JETTING will depend on intake / exhaust system ... If you do not have a FUEL/AIR GAUGE set up for real world tune'ing, have it done on a DYNO ... Tell the DYNO operator you want a 12 to 1 fuel/air ratio ... SAY THAT IS TOO RICH, WELL "i" HAVE MY S3T and BLAST JETTED THIS WAY !!! |

OK got the other carb off and pulled the plug on that one. It was 1-1/2 turns out and that is from a 2001 STOCK M2L. I'll be taking this one apart for a good cleaning and look over as long as I have it off. |
