Adapting a Buell Race Header Support to fit an early 2 inch SuperTrapp megaphone pipe and stock Y muffler hanger mount. Text and pictures to follow if Discus software allows. (Message edited by sparky on June 19, 2010) |

Pipe and Y hanger before. Note existing tiny support link from header to Shock Reservoir mount which was insufficient to keep pipe from vibrating and breaking exhaust studs. Note unused stock Y muffler hanger mount.

Mods to the Buell Race Header Support: 1. Cut off right facing tab (when viewed in the installed position with shoe pointing rearward) 2. Weld on a longer tab, approx 2 inches, onto the right facing tab stub making sure there is provision for adjustment

3. Bend both tabs slightly to fit Y hanger's rubber bushing 4. Bend a portion of front right shoe bottom so that it will clear the curved part of the pipe that joins the header.

Install the Buell Race Header Support to the Y hanger using stock mounting hardware. Cut off an approx 1 1/8" piece of 2 1/2" exhaust pipe (scrap from a muffler shop will do). Cut that piece into halves so that you have two semi circles that will be used to make up the difference between the 2 1/2" Buell Race Header Support and the 2" SuperTrapp pipe. Slip the two halves between the Header Support shoe and the SuperTrapp pipe. Install two appropriate sized hose clamps around the shoe and the pipe.

Note the necessity of bending the front right part of the shoe to clear the curvature of the pipe.

The final installation. Now for an extensive road test.

Wow, very creative. I take it you have, or have access to, a welder. Now maybe you can help me adapt a M2 Race Header to a stock muffler? (Seriously...) |

My sources are American Sport Bike for the Race Header Support, M&K Metals, Gardena, Calif. for a 1 x 4" piece of stainless steel, House of Stainless, Gardena, Calif. for welding expertise and most anything else for stainless steel fasteners, sheet metal, tubes and fabrication. |

Road tested approx 250 miles Sunday with the SCAB group up and down the Angeles Crest Hwy including several stints at the ton and, hey, nothing broke, shifted or fell off... Success! |
