Chris, 99+ should all have the rear exhaust under the frame. If it's got a header that goes over the frame it's either after market or a pre 99 stock header. It was one of the big changes that made the 99+ model years more streetable, you didn't need a heat resistant right thigh and you didn't need a skinny butt in order to ride with a semblance of comfort. Tim, Did you find in your research that the X1 front end geometry is in the frame? Cause it is... just to make sure that question was answered. The M2 seat will not swap to the S1 without changing the sub-frame, which involves cutting and welding. On the other hand, old style (pre 99) M2 tails will bolt right onto the 99+ bike if you like the slimmer lines and skinny seat. You can get foot peg relocators (for the M2) to move your pegs up and a little back if you are an aggressive street rider, have big feet, prefer not to ride with the balls of your feet on the pegs, or do the occasional track day. They are not such a big deal (dimensions or $$) as rear-sets. |

If one of the 99+ bikes is a red m2 it has a kt pipe on it, made the best hp out of all the full systems. Its also pretty noisey |

Ratty - yeah, you've onto the two bikes I was meaning. I think I get a handle on what is what with what and then a large 4x2 gets stuck in the rear wheel (handy for unlocking big nuts in the drive chain but not much fun if you're the riding!!) hadn't thunked about aftermarket Mike B - yeah that was what was throwing me and when the great day arrives to purchase, I'm hoping it'll be a Cyclone. . . i need a 2 cheek seat me thinks. Guell - yeah, one of the M2's is a red one( http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/mcy/2218092500. html) the urgent sale for $1500.00 . . . I've got $150.00 saved so far but somehow, don't think it'll go that low I bet a sportster of the same year would be more expensive to buy state side . .would I be correct in assuming that ??? . .Ok I was under the impression that the frame changed and rear pipe routing changed 98/99 The other one saying his is a 99 is at 21/615098.html?1297490054 . . .but it has the later model alloy swingarm 1999/2000 - 2002 thanx Guys chris in ChCh }} |

Chris the frame did change in 99. The earlier headers will fit it though. That's why you see a it pipe on the 99 |

Guell, That M2 @ $1500 is sold by the way. Hey, you post a lot here and seem to have a good knowledge of "Tubular Buells" . . . . and I'm going off topic here I know but is there a discernible difference in the handling of the pre 99 and post 99 framed M2's ?? I prefer the look of the earlier ones with the over-the-frame-pipe |

Chris, ive ridden one other 99+ m2. Its handling was different than mine, but it was due to the tires on it. Other than that the feel was the same as mine. I like how the 97-98 m2 looks over the 99+ |

Thanks for the feedback guys. Reason I was asking is that after owing and selling a couple of XB's which I loved, I am thinking of getting a tuber, and wondering which would suit. Would appreciate if anyone can give a comparison of the S2 or S3 against Cyclone and S1. I am leaning toward a Cyclone but saddlebags would give a little more versatility which = more riding. |
