the number should end with 89B to get the new, good gasket. I just ordered one recently. No need to search any farther.

Be careful with "synthetic gear oil." If you are going synthetic, then use either the HD product (Formula+) or a good synthetic v-twin motor oil, like Mobil1, Amsoil, Royal Purple, etc. There are so many threads here and elsewhere that discuss this, but the specific gear oil like a Mobil1 has additives that will eat your stator. If you used the Mobil1 Synthetic Gear Lube 75W90, get it the heck outta there when you get your new gasket. My .02 is to go with path of least resistance, by using formula+ or the same v-twin synthetic you use for engine oil. Change primary and engine oil often (say, every 2,500).

But about your leakage: let's say you did use a regular 20w50 v-twin oil in the primary, and not the gear lube. And it leaked. That could be from the synthetic going in and cleaning up all the old dinosaur sludge that had accumulated over the years in the nooks and crannies and helped seal everything nicely. Now dis-lodged by the syn. Did you replace the shifter shaft oil seal as well? Those can get damaged in removals.

I replaced my primary oil with HD regular Formula+ couple of weeks ago. The thing had the consistency of honey...Was a challenge trying to get it in the little opening behind the derby cover even using a small funnel. Shift changes are a lot smoother now.

crap, i have the mobile 1 75w90 synthetic in aprox 4 bikes right now...

my two bikes (blast and s1), my girlfriends blast, my sisters blast, and my friends blast...

did the all at once :S

for motor oil i used the same, mobile 1 synth 20w50 in all the blasts, and mobile1 vtwin (or maybe valvoline? came in a dark grey container) synthetic 20w50 in my S1

While we're on the topic, what is the timing inspection cover gasket #, derby cover gasket #, as well as the shift lever bushings / gasket #'s? I recently buggered up my tensioner (...I'm an idiot sometimes) and need to replace the whole primary case, and in the process intend to replace all the rubber / gasket components in that area.

Thanks guys.
