What might cause this? Is it possible the previous owner let all the air or oil out of the shock?

I tried turning the one adjuster (rebound?) all the way stiff and no diff. It's like riding oan bouncy toy.

Will these ebay shocks fit a s1? I did a "s1" search where your link was. There were 34 items but no shocks on there. My second freebee shock from HD could fail at anytime. Penske upgrade will have to wait.

Nathan, short answer is yes.

You need to measure your current shock, with the wheel unweighted for the most accurate # but the gist of it is 14.8" ish is the new stronger front mount and shock, 16.5" ish is the old style. If you can find a new one of either style you'll only have to change the front mount to make it work.

Mine felt a lot like a motorized pogo stick when it went bad. Upgrade, repair( rebuild with better valving too), or replace with stock parts from ebay or discounted dealer stock - those are your options in order of cost and ride improvement.

I do have these two shocks. Am I better off having this white spring AST serviced? If I do, how do I mount the remote resevoir?

AST would be my preference. No idea what it would need and how logistics of working with a Dutch company would be for that.
