I have read in an older thread that these are interchangeable and that it was an improvement. Does anyone have any info on this? Do any modifications need to be made? Thanks -Grant |

Check the Knowledge Vault, maybe try some searches? It's all been covered somewhere in the last few years I bet. The breather holes migrated to the top of the heads, like the eye of a flounder, when the Blast and XB's came along. I'm thinking this is in the realm of folks who just have trouble thinking of things to do to their bike. Supposed to put out less "splooge". But if some other things are right, my M2 don't get much anyway. Still need a breather catch can, from what I understand, so why bother? On the other hand, the main reason I don't consider it is because I got some 'old style' finned rocker covers, and they won't fit the new style. So, either way. Erik BUELL put the breathers in the rocker arm cover/covers of the BLAST and XB's because he knew the umbrella valves in the EVO SPORTSTERS did not last long because of head heat ... Breathers should be run to a catch container and not into the intake ... The BLAST came out first and "i" put BLAST PVC valves in my OEM rocker arm covers ... In effect "i" have been running them since 2000 and get no liquid discharge as long as "i" do not over fill my oil tank ... Have 108,919.45 miles on my 1997 S3T as of the last ride ... Want pictures, e-mail me(Ljenne73c@verizon.net) ... |

I'm not saying it's not a good thing re-design the breathers. From what I understand, it was Buell who instigated the re-design of the Sportster engine, based on what they learned from designing the Blast. I mean is it really worth the money updating an older bike with new rocker covers, just to get a few less drips? I have a catch can that I haven't emptied in years. Some tuber riders don't even use a catch can, they dump the effluvia just 'out'. Reminds me of some smokers I know, to whom the world is their ashtray. But I digress... |

Well, it also cleans up the side of the motor as an added benefit. Don't have the ugly hoses hanging off the side. |

Yeah, it's more attractive, and it's one less set of gaskets to leak, since the middle rocker cover piece is omitted (the xb covers are one piece). Necessary? No. But more elegant? For sure. |
