just replaced both upper and lower rockerbox gaskets on my 2000 M2... went for the first ride today and when i got back i found some oil on the front motor mount and on the front spark plug. could not really see where the oil came from. Is there any chance that i did not let the bike warm up enough and some oil came through before everything expanded enough to seal up? looking for a good answer before i tear into the damn thing again!! some info from fellow buellers is appreciated. thanx,

andrew

that or left over oil leaked down from the center of the head you did not wipe up...

Also, I have done this before, removed the rocker and installed new gasket without scraping off the old one, LOL duh...

Looking at your profile you are good on assembly and you would have purchased a FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL and PARTS BOOK for your YEAR/MODEL BUELL ...

"BUT" did you make up some special tool wrenches to TORQUE the rocker arm covers ???

These covers can be distorted if not evenly tightened and over tightened ...

The head to rocker arm plate gasket should be metal ...

The neoprene gaskets if in good shape be reused many times if put in the freezer for two hours which makes them like new ...

P.S. Plus what Spiderman said ...

yes i did make some special tools to get to the rocker arm covers, BUT I was unable to use a torque wrench on the front left cover bolt... right now i am wincing thinking about what i just said. but i did use the factory manual. i did use the metal rocker arm plate gaskets. i am hoping that i just needed to let the bike warm up a little more and we will see. not a lot of oil but any oil is enough to piss me off!! keep coming with the info people!!

I replaced my rocker covers with the xb ones and the back one leaked. I tried everything to get it to stop. Took it back apart and put the cover on a granite table and the brand new cover was warped! Got a different one and presto, no leaks

Orngm2 you can make up the special tool for left front rocker arm cover bolt ...

"i" used a long box end wrench and ground a little off the stuff that was in the way ...

Take it that you know that as long as the box end wrench is 90 degrees to the torque wrench the torque will be as read on the torque wrench scale, other wise it becomes a big math problem ...
