Hello again, was curious to hear anyones thoughts on whether a forcewinder actually noticeably improves performance?? Considering putting one on and then getting the bike dyno tuned. | ||

I don't think it "noticeably" improves performance but it noticeably changes the look of the bike. | ||

I noticed a bit of improvement in midrange when I first put it on. I was already running a loud pipe and race ECU though. My reasons for installing the forcewinder were mostly utilitarian in nature though. The tools at Boston H-D gutted my airbox before I purchased it and the side panel is not designed to be airtight. It was letting in sand and crap from underneath. They had also just stuck the intake air sensor to a random spot instead of in the intake. so my performance gains are mostly due to having the air sensor back in the picture. Also, if you're tall like me, it offers lots of knee room. | ||

+ 1 on knee room! That is the reason i got one, I had the round billet air filter and i had a permanent bruise on my knee that hurt like hell. any bump or rapid braking and my knee would bang against it! | ||

I have a Forcewinder too, I found it on my X1 when I purchased it used, but the one I'm after though, is this one... http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5642.html expensive as hell, but I like the small rounded shape. | ||

I've had one on there my 01 X1 since 2003. It works fine, cleans up the look, but no big power gain. With a White Bros pipe and the race ecu it dynoed around 85 HP. If you ride a lot in the rain, I mean like 100+ miles in a downpour, you can get some weirdness with water intake. It doesn't happen often, but it does from time to time. then again I live in one of the rainiest parts of the country. And yes I do run with the rain sock on. | ||

Hmm, sounds like I may wait until after I have it dyno tuned to buy the forcewinder if it doesnt make much difference with performance. I think I might give the shop a call at infineon raceway and make an appt. Thanks for all the input. -Trevor | ||

If you're going to get it dyno tuned, you should wait til the intake and exhaust are that way you want it first. Otherwise, you will have to do it all over again with the new setup. | ||

+1 on getting the force winder and exhaust the way you want it first! It will affect the dyno numbers and performance of the mapping. If you are not tuning it on the dyno it doesn't Make much difference on the performance. But you will feel the difference in either low end or mid range. | ||

I have a cone style filter mounted inside the airbox to the factory intake. I cut the airbox divider. Then shortened the tube and redrilled a hole farther back for the sensor. Cheap and hidden under the airbox. | ||

well i don't know if it's a stupid question but, exist any difference with the Forces named on ebay for sportster and the named for Buells, of course i'm taking about the XR not XR-2, because there are difference on $$$$ on one and other | ||

I am using a carb model on my x1. You need a different gasket to seal it properly. But it should work without to much hassle. | ||

Call AL @ American Sport Bike he has the air filter that has a spot for the sensor built onto the filter. Or you can drill the elbow and mount it on the top of the elbow. | ||

On the carb model there is a small "notch" around the outer lip of the inside part of it. This needs to be covered by a larger diameter gasket or the elbow will leak at that spot. perhaps we are talking about different models, but mine did not require a different gasket. I believe the pic below shows the area of the elbow being discussed...but I used the included gasket just fine:  | ||

Mine came with an "adapter" thingy that sat between the elbow and the breather bracket. Its about 3/4" thick and the holes matched the ones on the elbow. As for the IAT location, you can get the filter for the FI model and it has a spot on the back for the IAT . I think all the filters have a hole for the breather tube and that can also be used for the IAT with little persuasion. That's if you go the catch can route. Lots of options... | ||

andy See how your gasket is not visible just the tabs on it are. On mine it sticks out around the whole thing 1/4" I got my force winder elbow used from another badwebber and ordered a forcewinder filter. It was a lot cheaper this way! littlebuggles thanks again for the elbow. | ||

I dunno. I believe that the first one is what I bought- it came with that same breather filter and everything. The auction description (from my emails, it's been a while so the actual auction is long gone) says "FORCEWINDER XR AIR INTAKE SYSTEM AIR CLEANER FOR HARLEY" You will need to re route your breather hoses in some fashion with that filter. | ||
