I am a new m2 owner. I purchased the bike ebay and I am very pleased with it. I can repair and maintain this bike with ease, but I am fishing for a fix for the following problem. The seat attachment is not secure. The bolt from under the rear tail is worn and the receptacle in the seat pan is also worn. I can push and pull the bolt from under the tail section into the seat. The steel washer with a threaded device below it on the seat pan is molded into the plastic. any ideas...it had to happen to another, my idea for a fix is to tig weld a nut onto the washer and replace the bolt . I would rather not remove the cover to do this due to age, and also don't want to burn it up by accident. Any suggestions are welcome. | ||

Is it possible to tap the existing worn hole and replace the bolt with the new size? The original thread is that real funny thread that you'll never see anywhere else. I'm thinking you can just tap that... | ||

I took the easy way out. Went to the hardware store and purchased a lag bolt and flat washer of an appropriate size. I retained the original keeper washer so the bolt remains in the frame with the seat off. works great just opposite of stock. When you back off the bolt the bolt remains in position, but the seat raises with every turn of the bolt for removal. | ||

I'll take some pictures Wednesday and try to upload the result. I had the seat off several times for the oil change and check, then rode it 200 miles ....I'm certain this problems fixed. on the 200 mile ride I noticed another problem regarding the header strap onto the front hanger...seems to work it self off? The pipe hanger seems short for the header radius slope. the collector tapers to a round radius, but buell made my hanger a inch to short to grab the header in an ideal location. I love this bike...makes me feel needed! | ||

Did you Modify the Seat? (Pic's) Or just the Bolt? I have a similar prob with a Corbin Seat that I have yet to correct! | ||

I did not modify the seat. The stock seat has a flat washer molded into the plastic. Behind the flat washer is a retaining washer that was worn from the original bolt. I took the seat into an ace hardware and matched a lag with the with what was left of the retainer washer. I feel if that wears and I am sure it will I will still have the flat washers integrity to up size the lag in the future. It has been working great and if the previous owner would have secured the seat in this fashion he could have prevented the paint damage on the tank from the slop in the seat. Paint damage? I always wanted to try painting! mmm |
