I've adjusted my preload and still can't touch on my bike w/o tippytoes. Im 5'10" aparrently the seat is too wide for my inseam.If I get a m2 low seat will it go on the same way as mine?I dont want to lower it because I don't wanna comprimise my clearance. Any ideas? In traffic I lean to one side to combat this but its exhausting, I don't want to sell my bike but if fixing the height issue means taking the risk of low siding I will. please help. | ||

Low seat will help, but its still wide. A 97 tail and seat, while not nearly as comfortable, is far easier to flat foot. Another option is to get the m2l suspension bits | ||

Find a local upholstery shop and see if they will trim it a bit and recover it for you. Then get some prices for just re-covering the seat and consider this: I peeled the vinyl off my seat, marked the area I intended to trim then carefully cut the foam away with an electric meat knife. Then used a palm sander to blend the edges and some 400 grit paper to smooth and blend all the surfaces together. Took it to the "Seat Cover Company" a local shop that does boats, old cars and the occasional motorcycle seat cover. Cost was about $60 or so. You can remove an inch without any trouble, two if you need but be careful there, especially around the outer edges, I went a little too thin and can feel the plastic edges of the seat pan biting my thighs on really long rides (a layer of closed cell foam would probably fix this). If you trim away the square-ish edges from the top outer edge of the seat you'll have an easier time reaching the ground. Just round them out and blend them a bit. You might find a used low seat with some blemishes for that price and save the effort Personally, I kind of enjoy scaring myself with weird new projects every so often so I gave it a try when a friend told me he did his own seat and took it in to be upholstered. (Got a XB seat I'm fixing to trim now so the wife can hopefully ride the new bike). | ||

Aside from all that, as Guell said, a 97-98 seat and tail will make the reach easier and they're so much more svelt and sexy than the 99+ tail. They'll bolt right on too. Those seats are a lot slimmer than the later seat. The profile seems similar to the S1 seat which I found way too tall in all the wrong places, while I could reach the ground (I'm also 5'10", 32" pants are not quite long enough) the tall in the middle foam push too much on my man parts, prompting me to do the above mod for both comfort and the sake of my unborn children. | ||

get someone to make you one of these  to replace your front shock mount. Lowering my x1 slightly made no difference to handling (Message edited by snowbees on April 13, 2010) | ||

Bob, I've tried a bunch of seats on mine and the one that gives me the best footing is the Buell custom seat. It is narrower in the front than the stock seat,still plenty of padding in the back part. |
