I've noticed that on my last few rides that my bike make a popping sounds as I get out of the throttle to slow down (coasting). Also while the bike is idling it will pop as it revs down after a twist of the throttle. Anyone have any idea why it does this? |

Things to check: Exhaust gasket leak Timing (retarded) Lean mixture If you haven't messed with either the timing or carb, and it started recently, I'd check exhaust first. I'm sure someone out there can come up with other reasons. |

Mine started doing that when my rear exhaust shook loose from the head. +1 on lean mixture, if its not exhaust |

My '00 M2 popped once in awhile. I looked into it and found that my exhaust had multiple spider-web cracks on the back-side where the two headers come together. I was not able to see them without removing the headers. Had them welded-up. Also did the carb mods for new low jet (45) and needle shims. Did new intake seals also. No more popping at all. Much improved. |

Thanks for everyone's input!. Last night I tinkered around on it trying to find the issue. I found that at the front of the bike the two nuts that hold the exhaust to the heads were pretty loose. Moved on to the other head and had one missing nut and one really loose one. After addressing all 4 of the loose/missing nuts and a quick drive down the road, all seemed to be ok. Hopefully this cures the "cough" that my bike had caught. |
