My service manual for my 02 M2 states 2.0 qts for a oil change, 4 oz. of oil in oil filter and the remainder of the 2 qts in the oil tank.I took it for a test drive and come back to recheck the oil and it does not even touch the dipstick,so I added a few oz more to get it about a 1/4" above the low mark on the stick. Is the manual wrong? The way I'm checking the oil is by driving the bike about 4-5 miles to warm up good and checking the oil with the bike level and the engine off. (Message edited by scdobber on March 19, 2010) |

The stock dipsticks on the M2 are too short. Full oil should register about where you marked it - 1/4'' above the low mark. Filling it any more than that will have oil puking out your vent lines. |

That's the way I do mine. And it takes more than two qts. |

I agree with Schwiiing. The dipstick on the M2 is too short, and if you fill it to the full mark it will be overfull. Once it's overfull, it likes to puke the excess through the umbrella valves in the heads. If the vents in your head are vented to ambient rather than into the intake (into the intake was the stock configuration), you'll see the oil puking out of the vent. I've heard some people say that an overfull reservoir can cause the oil dipstick to push out, too; although, I've never had this happen. I usually run mine at exactly two quarts and the oil puking almost goes away, but if I put more than two in, it'll keep puking until the level is just right! After 3 years, 2 qts. and no problems. 2000-2001 M2's. Keep it simple, especially with no worrys. |

Two quarts on mine just barely barely gets the end of the stick wet, not even a millimeter. Good enough. |

The more oil you can run in these bikes the better, but you have to have room for the extra oilil coolers, large ford filter or Harley long filter. And if you got money to burn, a Alum.oil tank w/ extra qt. capacity. |
