Funny - I just saw a Craigslist ad for an S2 in same town where the seller is - by the time I contacted him for more info, the ad had been taken off. Hmm. |

Was I imagining that there was a picture of the set screw posted earlier? Basically, he drilled and tapped the isolator to allow a set screw to be placed just behind the kickstand, in the down position. I guess this actually prevents the kickstand from moving to the up position when there is weight on the stand. Neat Idea! |

Scott, that was a different auction and seller but it sure sounds like the same guy from the part descriptions. |

I've heard of different things with the same effect. My friend Larry welded a small piece of metal behind the kickstand on my dad's FXD so that it also can't retract when there is weight on the stand. |

What you are most likely talking about here is a fix for the factory fix of an expanded insert that reinforced the casting side stand stop. If in fact it is not the factory fix…hard to tell without a picture. Here is the factory insert...
I have repaired the mashed expanded insert on side plates, but you cannot just thread in a setscrew and expect it to last. Using a set screw as a replacements for the expanding insert is not a good idea because when the side stand pressure mangles the treads…the canting treads are mangled when you try to replace it. If you take a set screw and turn down the threads in the contact area to look like a dowel pin; then you do not destroy the treads but the back side of the turned down area is unsupported and bends. So the fix for that is to make a sleeve that slides over the dowel as it treads into place to back up the dowel to the casting and serves as a contact point for the side stand while not damaging the treads The point is ask for a clearer picture of what you are getting into.. |
