The nut that holds the trip meter reset knob has vibrated off. Does anyone know the size and thread pitch for this nut? |

Parts lookup shows it as a part of the reset cable package. I bought one years ago, I'll dig thru my receipts tomorrow and find the part number... |

Nah, I bought it separate, it crosses over to an older HD part (80s ElectraGlide, IIRC). Like I said, I'll look up my receipt tomorrow at work. |

Thanks guys. It has to be a regular nut of some size, and with the plastic threads of the knob, I could always cross thread something close on it. |

7518 is the HD part number. It's aluminum instead of plastic. I used a generous coating of threadlock when I put mine on - no issues since Oh, and we have 14 of them in stock. They're $3 each...but they do work perfectly. |

Hm. Just checked, they come up obsolete. Maybe I'll get a couple spares, just in case.... |

Lost mine also, dug through my nuts & bolts box and found a Brass plumbing fitting that fit perfect. Shined it up and looks better than factory. I think it is the nut part for a 1/2" compression fitting. Home Depot saves the day again. |

Well I took the suggestion of 4dwuds, and went to Home Depot to buy a 1/2 inch compression nut. It looked a little big, so I bought a 3/8 also. It was, but the 3/8 fit good. You have to drill out the top to 1/2" to get it to fit over the knob, but being brass, it wasn't very hard to do. |
