If you've been 9 years with one, why on earth wouldn't you go right back and get a new one of the same? |

Fahren's statement is a good one, but I use Yuasa YTX-12BS if I remember correctly. |

The original battery is no longer available from HD, they have a replacement kit $177.60 20% off HD list at } this kit includes the battery and relocates the voltage regulator for better air circulation http://mcmod.com/11-02.html |

Sorry - should have looked on your profile for bike type. I'd go for the S1 relocation kit, esp. if you can get it for a discount. Odyssey as noted by BrotherinBuells is a good alternative, but I don't know if it will fit w/o the Buell kit. |

Been stranded twice, thought due to major breakdown, both times now because auto parts store batteries, afraid to go with anything but dealer battery now, pretty steep but will do anything to not have to call somebody to pick me up again. |

Have a look at this one Red Top 20 It is identical in size the original battery The only difference is the + - are on the side not the top. You will retain the original look and you don't have to move the regulator. The Odyssey is the same size as the original as well. There are others too. Try searching threw the old threads. http://www.varleyredtop.com/products_20.htm |

Odyssey on sale: $113 here - my first choice. http://www.lmrbatteries.com/odyssey_PC545MJ.html Short on cash I gambled with the Scorpion here and it's been fine - $85 shipped. http://www.batterystuff.com/batteries/motorcycle/h YTX20DHL.html I'm using it on an M2. They spec a different version for the S1 in both cases. (Message edited by daveswan on February 15, 2010) |

Harley still offers the battery, the dealers just don't know it. Ask for a V-Rod battery, it's the same as the S1. |

I thought the V-Rod battery was the same one offered in the kit with the relocation bracket? |

No question - HD batteries are among the best. Why? How is an HD "typically" ridden: weekend / seasonal / fair weather rides. short but multiple trips between start and stops. high vibratory machines. All these conditions are "tough" on a battery so HD needs to have very high standards from their battery supplier. Hence, HD batteries are, by far, among the best. IMO... |

They also are rated VERY high for cold cranking amps. It's tough to turn the big twins over - a battery needs to be powerful to do it over and over again. But a lot of other threads mention good reviews of the Odyssey unit as well. |
