Hi All, I am a potential Buell owner. I am selling my shovelhead because I need something that is more reliable with less maintenance/money to ride to work. I had a guy offer me a '99 Cyclone plus cash for the shovel and I am wondering if I would be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire with this deal. How much work is this bike going to be maintenance-wise? It has 27,000 miles on it and it would end up being about $2,500 worth of the trade. I am sure it would be fun to ride, but life is so hectic now I need less problems, not more. So what do you think? Thanks, B | ||

More guys will chime in, but having owned a "troublehead" and now a '99 Cyclone, I'd say you may be headed in the right direction. Same sort of stuff to look for, how does it start when cold, good idle, smooth shift, no wierd tire cupping. There is also the frame/engine isolators, check around here about them, make sure they aren't broke. Otherwise, just check it out like you would any other bike. Good luck with it! | ||

I'm sure a lot of guys here won't like to read this but, if you want fewer problems and less maintence issues, you might look at the Japanese offerings. They are known to be pretty trouble free after all. I mean I ride an M2 but it is broken right now so I'm riding my BMW because it pretty much always works. Buells are great rides but there are better if you want dependability. | ||

If you like wrenching and having the coolest bike on the block? Then the Buell is for you. I have a 2002 M2 with zero problems except for a broken wire. Many will say 2002 was Buells best year for quality. | ||

Thanks for the replies guys, I know this is an impossible question to answer since it has a lot more to do with the individual bike's history than anything else. I had a Honda cb750 for 6 years before getting the shovel and it was reliable as hell and just as boring. So I probably should pass on the Cyclone, but for $2500 it is tempting. b | ||

As a shovel and Buell M2 owner i would say : keep the shovel and buy the M2. then you got 2 bikes to choose between or got 1 spare in case one off them brakes down. |
