Hope you can help - I have read a few threads about buying used steering dampers on Ebay and adapting them to fit the tube frame Buells? I have a 1997 S1 - but could use some help identifying the years and models that can be adapted to fit - where would you buy mounting hardware and what part numbers? thanks in advance |

You need a damper with a stroke long enough to go lock to lock on your bike, a fork clamp in 54 mm(easy to find) and a mount to clamp to your frame-----much harder to find. I can measure damper on the S-1 at the shop and let you know. |

best I could remember, some threads on Gixxer dampers on Blasts, from the Thumper forum: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/304919.html and the last post here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/347969.html No idea if this would work on an S1, but thought maybe it could help give you some ideas. From what I've read, it looks easy to find the 54mm fork clamps, but not so easy to find the frame bracket. (Message edited by fahren on January 31, 2010) |

Mine on the S-1 here is approx 16 1/2" long with about a 5 1/2" stroke, the one on my S-2 appears to be the same, two different brands. I picked them up on eBay cheap, fork clamps are available from Phillips Lockhart and others, frame clamp, good luck. I ended up using a clamp from one of my dirtbikes handguards on one bike. I just looked and I have a damper from a Gix that I parted that will work--25.00 plus shipping. (Message edited by firemanjim on February 01, 2010) |

if you are a competent welder/fabricator or know one what about drilling and inserting/welding in a metal tube into the frame and use that to bolt the damper to the frame?just need a metal tube the right internal dia and long enough to space the damper from the frame, should also not weaken the frame at all, |
