Well, like I said in the other thread, I finally convinced the other half that the X1 is too uncomfortable and I "need" another bike for light travel. And it is going to be for solo use since she does not like to be a passenger. The target timeframe is sometime in the spring. Given that I want to stay with "Made in USA" and within my budget, I have narrowed down the choices to either a Victory Vegas 8-Ball (I like the black treatment and price) or an HD SuperGlide (or the new WideGlide). I do have to confess that while I am very disappointed that HD dropped Buell, unlike a lot of folks, I personally don't hold any grudges against them. So please don't flame me. I just want to get some input from folks who have either owned these bikes or have some knowledge about them. Also please let me know if there are other choices I should consider. Like I said the usage is for solo light travel and the X1 will stay. Thanks in advance. | ||

Hey Kalali, I have ridden both those bikes. Both are very different and if I had to choose I would pick the 8-Ball but I do not think it is any more comfortable than a X1 (I have only ridden one X1 a couple of years ago and was surprised at how comfortable it was). The 8-Ball handled better but I felt the Glide was more comfy. I really cannot advise one way or the other since I would not buy either (I hate Arlen Mess Inspired stuff and I still hold a grudge). However, I am very happy HD is out of the Buell business. The future is bright. It it were me and I needed a bike for light travel I would have a M2, S3 and of course a S2 but I consider those all day riding bikes. The XB12Scg is an absolute fun bike to ride. More so than any other bike I own and I think (I have not done it yet) I could ride it all day. The Uly would meet your needs a couple of times over. I am very impressed with the new KZ Concourse and Honda ST-1300. Good luck | ||

BTW: only you can decide which is the best so go grab a test ride.... If I had to pick a bike other than Buell I would have a hard time doing it. | ||

Nothing a seat and bar mod cannot fix,unless it is just some thing else you have to get, for the price of those you could take quite a ride (rtw)or rides, 2up . Just my penny. | ||

I've owned 2 superglides I wouldn't trade my m2 for either one. I have a corbin seat and vintage mx bars on my m2 and it fits me nicely. I rode every new bike I could for months before buying my m2. I like owning more than 1 bike if buying a new harley for light touring I would look towards the roadking or standard flh my 2 cents. | ||

amen on what snake said. my wifes first bike was a superglide and an fxr it is not. i couldn't go from tampa to daytona on the bike without it killing my back because of the seating position. some people can handle it and other's can't. i wouldn't give you two cents for a superglide. well maybe i would so i could resale it and get another buell. go test ride and don't rule out an fl. | ||

Thanks guys. I would definitely take a test ride before I buy anything but just wanted to start the research and ask from folks who could relate to what I already have. Realistically, I could get a real nice S3T and be done. Or a Uly for that matter. But I just figured I'll live life and try something different (before she changes her mind). The main reason I picked the SG and/or the WG was just their clean sporty look. I also kind of wanted to keep the X1 as a badass bike that it is and not try to turn it into something else. Anyway, thanks again for the input. | ||

i'd rather ride all day on the x1 than the wg or sg but i'm glad that you decided to do test rides though. | ||

All the Jap bike dealers in my area don't allow a test ride even when you have cash in hand. They claim its because of insurance reasons, etc. In contrast, my local HD salesman offered me to have the bike the entire weekend and the Victory guy said just call ahead of time. The weather is pretty lousy around here so either way it'll be a while before I take anyone up on a test ride offer but I know for sure it will not be a Jap bike (even though they do have some nice bikes). We will see. | ||

I would bet that a wide glide with the new for 2010 sprung saddle would be pretty comfy. I routinely rode an 2001 WG for 400 mile days. Best of luck, differnet is nice. Try a Heritage softtail or Fatboy also, the new low version really looks nice. |
