Do the Cyclones have factory set rev limiters? Just in case of a missed shift ect.... (Message edited by scdobber on January 18, 2010) |

BUELLers: OEM is 6500 RPM ... IMHO, is the max. RPM to shift at on the EVO SPORTSTER Engine is 6800 RPM ... If you want your rods to last, stay below 6500 RPM ... "MAY THE LONG LASTING BUELL BE WITH YOU !!!" |

The reason I asked is I somehow missed a shift from 3-4 and had it rev up to about 6300 for a split second but didn't hear the limiter,I must not be shifting up high enough |

Since 1996, the Buell tube framer rev limits were all 6,800 rpm. |

The stock ignition begins to retard the timing, I believe @ 6500 rpm and eases up to the 6800 rpm limit. The Buell race ignition goes hard until it cuts out at 6800 rpm. |

Ignition timing on the S1's, M2's, S3's, and X1's is slightly retarded beginning at 6,200 rpm compared to the race module. It's not that big of a difference though, a couple degrees or so is all if I recall correctly. |

In any case, the original question was answered, the missed shift caused no damage whatsoever. |

I blew the float valve out of position and got gas all over my garage. |

I did forget that the S2 was produced as a 1996 model. Its rev limit was lower at 6,200 rpm as it was a stock Sportster engine. |

Blake: IMHO, a stock SPORTSTER will rev to 6800 RPM with no problem with a 7000 RPM REV limiter Module ... My 1958 XL (iron head SPORTSTER) would, which was before LIMITERS !!! "i" REV'ed it 8000 RPM by mistake and the rods broke ... |
