On my rear cyl my header tube came out of the flange... What would cause this and can it be repaired? Was riding and noticing funny noises and figured dangit the one time Im in a pinch an have to run 87 octane it must be the gas... Upon further inspection it sounds like an exhaust leak.... When I get to work I check it out. Yep all the nuts look tight, must be good. The at idle at a red light I'm like that's def an exhauhst leak, and I look around at the pipes and grab the rear pipe by the heat shield and wiggle, it's very loose. When I get home I notice I can pull it right out of the flange while the flange sits tight on the head! |

There's a C clip that goes on the pipe after the flange is put on, to keep it from sliding off the end of the pipe. Pull your flange, I bet you find pieces of clip in there... |

Also the clip can bow over time allowing it to pop through very easily. If you are stuck some where, they can pounded flat with a hammer or....(rock) and used temporarily. Ask me how i know! |

same thing happned to me, couldn't keep the exhaust in the flange. i finally removed all of it and found both of my c-clips were warped. a few bucks later at HD she was good to go, haven't had any problems since. make sure you SEAT the clip into that pocket on the inside of the flange plate when you get ready to install. DAMHIK! |

Most likely, your pipe is damaged like Snp304's. The good news is that it can be repaired by a competent stainless steel welder. |
