Snp304 - I usually have two bikes up and running at any given time...gotta ride to relieve the headaches... Road_Thing posted a pic of “The Orange S2” on the road from the factory to Milwaukee; here are a couple other shots and some description. It is incredible the amount of work in that body alone. Seamless, one piece, solo body - that has been lengthened 2”- tapered width 1.5”- sectioned tapered thickness 1” – ZX-11 taillight.
Duel projector headlights - Fairing lengthened 4” – sides roll in to follow tank cover – flanges removed - bottom cupped for fender clearance – windscreen mounted from the inside – color keyed Yamaha mirrors. The inside looks as good as the outside
This was done in 00 before the XB’s came out; the look from Erik and the designers was pretty funny. He made a comment to me about it, but I do not remember exactly how it went. It was on the order of, have you seen something you shouldn’t. (Message edited by Rickie_d on December 31, 2009) |

Hey, I've seen that orange bike! It's in my garage. I was hoping that Rickie would post some pictures of it. I was going to shoot a few detail shots this weekend if he didn't. I didn't want to take any credit for it. The bike, and the fact that I've gotten this deep into Buell's is all because of Rickie. I remember some tool giving me crap because the bike was trailered in for the 2000 Homecoming. What he didn't understand is that I moved to NC in early '99 and Rickie took on the project and finished it. Somewhere there is a picture of me seeing it for the first time. Words simply cannot express how I felt, and the gratitude to Rickie for what he did. I left him with a bike and a bunch of really rough glass parts, and this is what came back! I remember Erik seeing it up at that burger drive north of Milwaukee and going all over it. It was clear we were onto something, he did ask a real leading question about the fairing. What do you guys know? The bike is the smoothest, most sensuous S2 I've ever seen. It almost gives you wood! Like Rickie, I'm good for 2 tanks of fuel and then I need a rest. If I'm planning longer I take the M3-T, way shorter and I be on the Blast Beast. Keep these up! No Stock Bikes! (insert red circle with slash here) Kevin |

Hm. Can I post up about my Ti rods, screws and plates in my legs as "custom parts"? Or do I need to find x-rays to post as pictures? LOL Great looking bikes, everyone. I love the solo S2 tail section. Might have to find myself a spare tail and make something similar. Hmmmm... |

Kev - there was a lot of bitching when that bike came out of the trailer. I was not sure how the "tough Guys" thought I was going to ride three bikes out to Homcoming. I sure shut them up when I slid the orange one around Battle Trax a couple of times; especially when they did not wnat to risk it with their "riders" You should gather up and post pics of the Blast brake conversion I made for you. then the M2 forks conversion. Rat- maybe the ti parts belong it a new thread named - "The cool parts inserted into your body from installing/riding your cool parts" (Message edited by Rickie_d on December 31, 2009) (Message edited by Rickie_d on December 31, 2009) |

thanks guys,, kmbuell and rickie d have always loved that orange s2.. beautiful,, rickie,, i can vary shift ratios and also vary stroke lengths of the shifter.. currently it is set for a very short (but stiff) up and a slightly longer down stroke. it makes that bike shift like a dream compared to anything else i have.. if i ride the blast and jump on the s2 it dosent even feel like the bike shifted. its such a short and smooth transition.. ratbuell if you buell gave you custom parts i think they should be posted too.. i used to have a bright red music note on the inside of my right leg,, people would ask why did you get that tatooed there,, it was a scare from my s2t setting my jeans on fire one day.. gave me third degree burns.. is has sence fadded away and gone to a more natural scar color.. i wish i had taken a picture of it.. oh well.. zt ferrari thanks,, love that old girl,, think she is about to be torn down and reborn. i would like to add a few more origional 62 touches like internal throttle and blade levers,, stock 62 xlch exhaust.. just things i have been meaning to do for a while.. oh yeah and put some rubber mounts on the bars.. here are some pulleys i made stock just to compare not only are there the holes to help remove some of the mass but it has also been dished out more and cleaned up a bit.. i always disliked the look of the stock pulley, it just didn't seem to match the look of the wheels or the rest of the bike.. lightening the rear pulley also helps reduce rotating mass and unsprung mass,, kinda a double gain.. i also like how it opens up the rear wheel allowing you to see threw a bit more.. my bike currently runs a EBC front rotor so the carrier matches the rear pulley better.. gotta go here my boy waking,, hope you all enjoy, aaron |

Aaomy – Looks familiar, I cut these to match the PM’s on my softail. I will be cutting a pattern for the S&M2 project to match the Braking rotors used.

Here is a PM 4 piston I adapted to Kevin’s “Blasterd” (or is that spelled with a u?) with 17” rims, but I don’t think they will ever see the light of day.
I was down visiting him a couple of months ago and gave him a M2 fork setup in trade for some project parts I needed. We were having a couple of beers, looking through his junk, and reminiscing about the blast with GP rubber I used to run in Battle Trax; and I said why don’t you put the entire M2 setup on it. He said it wouldn’t fit. I asked why and he showed me the problem. I told him that is not a problem, running out of beer is a problem; throw the trees in the truck and I will mail them back modified to bolt on. Now he has six pistons to do a face plant with |

There are some fabulous skills on show here, but that alloy drive sprocket is something else. Is it simple to make with the right machinery coz it doesn't look it? Question for the engineers. Would it be possible to machine a stock S1W front brake rotor to become a wave rotor? If so, any advice welcome thanks. Rocket |

Rocket, I believe his sprocket was cut from a factory sprocket. |

Rocket - I personally would not alter a stock Buell rotor for several reasons. They are engineered with a minimal sweep area that has an existing pattern you need to account for in the wave design. A wave design in the stock rotor and carrier would hinder the rotors ability to cycle and dissipate heat while remaining true. When you study a wave rotor of the same diameter in comparison; they all have wider sweep areas even though your pads will not utilize it with smaller diameter carriers. Their carriers are full parameter (bridges between buttons) with three additional touch points to help dissipate heat and deter warping. That is the reason most will alter the stock pulley pattern to match the aftermarket rotor; or purchase an aftermarket pulley to match the stock rotor. |

rocketman,, there are places to save money and places you dont skimp on,,, brakes and tires are probably the two most important parts of your bike,, if you want a wave rotor order one.. brakes are very complexe componets that convert movement into heat energy,, they then must store, transmit, and disapate this energy very quickly and efficiently.. all these factors have to be taken into consideration along with the property of the rotors, pads, carriers and calipers to help determine mass, material, design.. hope this helps some,, rickie d,,, like the pulley rotor and rims,, much better than stock.. i have never understood the round holes in the rear sprocket.. here are some images of the billet motor mount i made for my s2t,, i wanted to put xb heads on her typing is still a pain in more ways then one so i will keep this short,, aaron what my piston sees who needs a bug zapper hope you guys like,, aaron |

Aye but it wasn't about not spending. I remember years ago when brake rotors use to be drilled by specialist companies because all discs back then were solid, mostly all anyway, except for race bikes which we were trying to emulate. Now my problem is matching the profile of my earlier style rear rotor from Braking. It's proving impossible to source the same style front with the rounded wave tops as opposed to the more fashionable flat topped waves we see on most every design today. So I was just thinking from an engineering standpoint, why can't one re-profile a stock Buell rotor....... I'm assuming the problem is not in the machining or with what's left to work with providing enough strength and heat dissipation can be achieved, so that leaves the properties of the steel questionable. But that said, I take on both of your comments, but I'd be interested in seeing what the result would be, and finding out if it would work. Thanks again. Rocket |

It is extremely light weight aluminum and even had a correctly-sized hole for the hose designed in at the factory! |

Thanks for the link aaron. I have always lusted after an xlch. What type of mill do you have? I am looking into buying a mill in the near future. Ideally, I would like a nice bridgeport since that is what I have worked with for the last 5 years or so. Does anyone have any recommendations into where to pick up a nice used mill? Can I pick up a good machine for under 5-6 grand? |

Aaomy, very nice work! What's the story on that kickstand, very unusual shape? Roadthing, I don't remember seeing that S-2 out at your place. I like that shorter single seater, looks like I need to corner Jay about that unused bit of gorgeousness. |

ztferrari,, i prefer an old bridgeport.. most of my stuff was made on a millport,, cheep knock off.. with times like they are you can pick up lots of cheep equipment,, lots of places going under,, or having all there tooling made over seas,, just gotta look around.. blazin buell,, well its an s2 thing,, if you have ever seen a stock one, they sit at a scary angle.. they always look like they are about to fall over because,, well,, they are. when you ride a s2 you always park your bike in gear,, angled up hill,, and facing into the wind.. with a stock kick stand you dont let your bike idle alone,, and you only fill the tank most of the way.. some people bend there stock kick stand to achieve less lean and a past pivot point foot position.. i went about it a different way, i purchased another stock side plate and removed the kick stand mount,, then made a billet mount and kick stand,, i am going to make a billet frame brace for the bike.. one like the old banke frame braces,, so i thought the kick stand should have the same sort of angle appearance so the accent each other.. it was made to go with the al swing arm but after getting married my swing arm needed full travel,, lucky me i scored a factory braced race swingarm.. it allows for a more period correct swing arm with out the wallow and flex of the stock one.. still really like the look of the al ones though...... but now my bike can idle while i close and lock the garage,, i can put more gas in the tank at fill ups,, alot less umph to get it off the side stand,, and,, well i like it.. first picks with al swing arm last picks with braced swing arm, enjoy and best wishes,, aaron
