I wanted to start a new thread so I did not have to hijack Joes thread anymore.

Those of you that have the letter from Erik Buell have already pointed out that it states "there was 2147 S2 and S2Ts made" or something to that effect.

After doing a little research (that damn S2 owners list came in handy for something after all) here is what I came up with:

1995 S2 Signature Series:
1399 = 49 State Bikes made
86 = California Bikes made

1996 S2 Signature Series:
200 = 49 State Bikes made
28 = California bikes made

1996 S2T Signature Series:
398 = 49 State bikes made
36 = California bikes made

1399
86
200
28
398
36

Equals 2147

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused. These numbers were running around in my head but do not think I thought about them for a while. Of the S2 owners out there I may have 7 percent reflected with all information but just about every two weeks I meet another owner. It is fun.

You may wonder why I said "Signature Series" instead of "production." The reason is that I do not think that is all the S2s made. I will post more when I have time.

All S2s are Signature Series bikes but I am sure you know that. I would keep bugging the original owner for the stuff....

I do not think I have you on the owners list either. If you want to be on it send me your VIN in a pm and we will go from there.

From the book "25 Years of Buell" which from hereon out will be know as "The Book", page 78.

1995 S2 Production:
California 85
Canada 48
Japan 0
Domestic 1326
Total = 1459

1996 S2
California 24
Canada 10
Japan 1
Domestic 188
Total = 223

1996 S2T
California 34
Canada 26
Japan 41
Domestic 328
Total = 429

That adds up to 2111.... Kind of blows what I posted earlier out of the water...

My favorite pictures are on page 74. What great days those were for Buell owners. I never tier of the "Lap of America" story Court.... Which reminds me, I need to scan some stuff in...

Thanks BB, that is good to hear every so often (you have no idea how good that sounds sometimes). Actually I do not think the production numbers matter that much. I would trust anything from Court and Dave before anyone else.

We all have a bike that is special, not because of a timing cover or a VIN but because it is just a great bike.

I am watching a show about the Million Dollar Highway in Colorado (550). I had a great time on that road last summer. The S2T was perfect for it.

One of my favorite roads was to run the Devil's Highway (formerly Route 666) up and come into Farmington (talk about a WILD ride down the side of a mountain??? . . I had to go back for a second try) . . . . I had dinner with famed U;tra Marathoner Kathy Tibbets . . and then headed North to try out the "Million Dollar Highway".

The spa in Ouray is a great place (according to friends . . but I l kept on going . . . what a fabulous area.

By the way . . . . these kind of roads were MADE for an S2. Highway 371 was one of the two places in the US that I have stayed in triple digits for an extended period of time.

Cool! I may have to get the personalized plate "#1 of 28" for my 96 S2 Cali Spec. (my VIN ends with a bunch of zeros and a one)

One thing I want to say about production numbers. Do not take them too seriously. I know guys that restore Nortons and Vincents and this is very important to them but it should not be to us. I look at it like this, no one really knows how many Crockers were made. They have theories and speculation but no factual data. It is part of the fascination.

There are many variables and it those early days of BMC I would think the sequence, VINs and actual production was not only a challenge but littered with challenges. The fact that they made so many is monumental, going from 50 a year to over a 1,000 is no small feat.

About half way into the show Lynn said she wanted to ride her Buell there. I intend to make a long weekend out of it but it will fit nicely in our annual trek to Gateway Colorado.

>>>Amazing people we meet sometimes.

Like Ted Turner, Harrison Ford (avid BMW rider), David and Colleen, James's Taylor's brother (who runs a bed and breakfast), Dione Sanders and a host of other people . . . I met a LOT of interesting folks when the national business magazines were writing about my Buell adventures in the mid-90's.

Cathy had read about my adventures and I started teasing her about racing. I made it a point to take a side trip while circling the country on the Buell and head up to Farmington. She'd told me about the spa at Ouray and he and I used to get into lots of online banter on the "old" Buell forum.

I rode into Farmington and had dinner with her. The next morning . . I was waiting in my running gear when she came to pick me up at 7:00am and head out to her favorite place to "run rocks". Off she went with me in tow. . . I made it about 100 yards. Any idea what the elevation is in Farmington? . . I found out the painful way.

She won.

: )

That's right after she'd won something like a 150 mile race through Antarctica to the South Pole. Bizarre stuff and a hell of a nice person.

Any idea what the elevation is in Farmington? The low lands, somewhere around the same as Fountain which is 5,500 feet of course you do not have to go far to "get up there". Ask Jinance and his lovely girl friend about their ride up Pikes Peak. There is nothing funnier than seeing the flat landers run around at 14,000 plus feet.

I have never been to Farmington proper but do ride around the Four Corners area from time to time. Last year the NM group took that route home from the Colorado Buell Rally in Pagosa Springs one night and Gateway the next night. Fourcorners was in the news last year. Apparently the marker is in the wrong place LOL.

Court, next time your in Colorado we may need to ride out that way. One of my favorite places: http://www.gatewaycanyons.com/}
