when swapping xb rockerbox covers onto x1 rockerboxes, do i need to do anything with the umbrella valves in the x1 rockerboxes? just leave them in place right?

just to be sure....

your swapping just the rocker tops? the actual cover that sits on top?

if so then yeah

The XB rocker box covers replace the top two sections of the X1/M2/S3 rocker box covers, so the umbrella valves are deleted from the set up (I believe they are in the middle section).

buggles is right, the umbrella valves are in the middle portion of the stock tuber rocker covers.

The XB cover being 1 piece instead of two eliminates one gasket = one less potential leak.

I really don't notice less puking into the catch can since switching to XB covers, but like the hidden breather hose routing they offer.

When doing the swap, remember to fill the old breather holes in the heads with a standard bolt instead of the hollow banjo bolt.

DOI,

sorry I wasnt thinkin right, I forgot the xb's have less layers to the rockers. Eliminating that breather umbrella, but it should be pretty easy to see that when you get them in your hand.

just had to flame myself

thanks

Getting the rear cover on takes a bit of fiddling, taking it off in the future takes a lot more =]

i have heard people shaving a bit off of the cover to help that. i will probably do that. getting the old ones off was hard enough.

Rear cover? I've always had trouble with the front one but the rear one goes off and on no problem.

On my S1 the rear XB breather valve rubbed the fuel tank slightly causing a leak. I switched that one to the 04+ XL style internal breather. The XB breather hose is always bone dry. The XL hose is always misted. I have no doubt the Buell XB breather system is the best yet.

I had to relieve the front left corner of the xb cover to keep it from contacting the motor mount.

To get the rear cover off I lift it, shift it back toward the back of the bike and turn it a bit, then spin it around the other way 18-20 times to find the sweet spot (about a 1/4 turn or so).

The rear pcv valve comes pretty close to the tank if it's not making contact, but everything seems to work okay together.

I still need a catch container, but maybe that's due to elevation or how much the bike is ridden, or something of that nature...

I think there's a slight difference in clearance between the different tuber models. I had zero problems getting either the front or rear XB rocker cover onto my X1. The stock front cover required a little wiggling, but still wasn't too hard to get into place.

FYI the XB rocker covers were installed after brand new isolators front and rear, which I would assume would make the engine sit as high as possible. (worn isolators begin to sag and provide more clearance between the rocker covers and the frame)

sorry i did mean the front cover. it required a rag and a screwdriver and some coaxing. hopefully the xb cover will go on smoother, they will be here tomorrow.
got the intake seals replaced. much easier with the rocker boxes and tank off!
doing the oil pump drive gear and rockers tomorrow night.

Just did the conversion on my S2.

The XB covers, since they're taller, are a PITA to install. Think rubik's cube.

I think the X1 will be better...but I had to use two front rockerbox covers on the S2 because the rear PCV, if mounted on the intake side (tall side) of the rear head, hit the tank belly. Using a front box on the rear head puts the valve at the rear of the head, down low...no problems.

To expand on Rat's S2 problem: I had the same issue, had to use two front boxes. I looked at simply putting the front box on the back cylinder and vice versa, but that won't work, either--no clearance for the PCV valve on the front cylinder.

Goldtooth the XB boxes are no easier. If a relief is ground into the upper box it makes it easier to maneuver. It doesn't take a whole lot and if you have a 90 degree die grinder it only takes a minute or two to do.
