supertrapp(newer style/one piece) is tunable and needs no packing. it's a great pipe. old style(two piece)will more than likely break apart on you. at least mine did. vance and hines,no experience.

I have the Supertrapp. Sound and quality are nice. I can't comment on the other but I like this.

I went from a V&H to the Supertrapp and I prefer the sound and power of the Supertrapp. I think it is also built better than the V&H, just more solid. Being able to tune it is nice, I've only tuned for noise, not power so I don't believe I'm seeing the full benefit of that feature.

Both need packing. I chose to repack the ST I bought used, it had little packing left in it. Another bonus is it's stainless like the factory header and polishes nicely.

It is quite a bit heavier than the V&H. Don't know how it compares to stock muffler weight.

I have had both, did not set up the supertrapp myself, the sound is similar, but the V&H is a little deeper in my opinion. Definitely get rid of the stock muffler, the weight and performance difference is worth it.

I have the V&H and am happy with it. It's light and IMO sounds just right. The bracket welds (both F & R) are known to be weak so I just beefed up the weld points before install.

Both have reliability faults, but Supertrapp is better than V&H in terms of longevity. V&H does sound great though...

I prefer the OEM Race Muffler myself...

I have an M2 and an S3, one with the aluminum V&H and the other with carbon fiber V&H. I would NOT recommend either because both styles have had mount failures, one actually caused the muffler to depart somewhere along a 100 mile stretch of interstate.

Besides that the support from V&H is non-existant. I ordered a replacement bracket for the CF one because the one I had was about to fail (bad welds). They sent THREE brackets out before they finally got me the correct one. Then after about 150 miles the welds on the new one let go and the muffler vibrated and the pop rivets holding it together ate through the CF and the whole thing fell off. V&H wouldn't do anything about it, I had to find a local welder to reweld my old bracket and get a new muffler off eBay.

I ran a V&H for a couple thousand miles, and after the second front mount failure switched to the updated Y mount and got a used Supertrapp IDS. I'm very impressed with the quality and toughness of the supertrapp. There is a difference in sound between the two, but after a long spirited ride yesterday I really like how the supertrapp sounds. Plus its tuneable. PO said there were 20 discs in there, I haven't checked but that sounds about right for what I'm experiencing.

I had the CF v&h and it was so light and sounded awesome for 750 miles when it self destructed. The super trap is a tank and heavy.

Spend the extra $200 and get the d and d system it is the best i have seen yet.

I will have the new d and d system i bought a week ago installed in a day or so when i get some time.

My ST IDS on my 2000 M2 has over 20,000 on it. If I clean it up, it looks like new.
I think I've repacked it 3 times. It's due again...

The SuperTrapp is just about a half a pound lighter than stock. I weighed them when I switched.
The Vance & Hines is much lighter but I didn't weight mine before I gave the pieces away.

"Spend the extra $200 and get the d and d system..."

You will also have to get the updated Y hanger @ $125 if you don't have one already. So its more like $325-$350 more than the V&H by the time you're done. Also keep in mind that D&D is fairly loud if that matters to you.

Anything but the V&Hines, mine is falling apart like the rest,
at least I won't have a problem with the front mount as the rivets are all
loose(again) and has slotted the muffler
so is not rigid mounted.

SuperTrapp makes the Buell race muffler (for the stock pipe) It is built very well. The early model was an accident waiting to happen, but the current one is very reliable. The D&D is a great muffler too (I have one). If you don't have the new Y type front mount, you should get one regardless of the muffler you end up getting. The front attachment mount of your new muffler will thank you.

There are TWO base versions of the Race Muffler. The Buell and the Supertrapp.

The Buell version is ROCK SOLID reliable.

Haven't had the same result with any other brand...

Kalali

The 2001 X1's came factory with the y hanger upgrade. Also the 2001 and up had all the recalls done too.

I should have stated that in my first post!
