Wow..I had to share this. I went to the local bike shop here for my sending unit today and asked what Buell stuff they still had. I noticed a Thunderbolt parts catalog on the counter for $5 so I asked. The owner came out and commenting on my bike outside saying the White Lightnings were cool and so I asked him if he knew where I could get a rear shock for mine. I hate having that torque bar instead! Well he came out with a box of Buell stuff they had left over sitting for years. I walked out with a brand new rear shock (complete assembly) and a new parts catalog for the 98 S1W for FREE! My heart kinda sunk when he walked out with the shock because I was expecting him to say something like $300-400...and wouldn't be able to get it. So I asked him how much and he just looked at me and said "How about I lay this out back by the dumpster and you just pick it up?" He then tore off the barcode label off the box and handed it to me! Now I have to figure out how to put a stand under the bike and change it out. It's not like my dirtbike where a traditional stand will do, but I'll figure something out Just wish I could have got the correct white lightning shock |

Wexy21: First of all, not to bust your BUBBLE, "BUT" that was a left over RECALL SHOCK and the Dealer did not stick it to you by charging you for it ... The PARTS BOOK, you should have been charged for ... THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW EXAMPLES OF THE DEALER NOT BEING A "STEALERSHIP" ... This Dealer would be a DEALER to do business with and you should drop the dealers name to all of us !!! You did bust my bubble...now I must throw it away. Just kidding, I'm still happy because I was going to buy one and I got this for free. I would like to have the open shock (white) though. The name I don't remember but it's in Palm Springs off of N. Indian Canyon right off of the 10hwy. Go there if you are able, they have some Buell stuff left over and are pretty cheap. I seen new leathers there for 200, jacket and pants in a medium. I would have bought but too small. Nice looking too! |

Look through the S2 files and you'll see where Frank has used a ladder and straps to hold up the back of his bike. Tie the front brake lever down to keep it from rolling and you're set. Congrats! |

westex- what you need is a don shalla centerstand. Al may sell them or look up centerstand.com If you were in OC I could lend you mine. It picks the bike up by the peg mounts. Very nice set up and any tuber owner/mechanic needs one. http://www.cyclelifts.com/ chuck |

flip the rider pegs, put jack stands under them and you'll be good to go. Nice find! |

Ceejay's advice is an easy and cheap option, just carefully rock one side then the other to get it on the stands. Very nice find! |

Jerod, you can try and get a couple bottle jacks under each front peg mount but you'd have to be super careful. I have a centerstand but you'd have to ride it out to San Diego. |

Nice. I sold my tuber because I couldn't afford $400-$600 at the time. I'm going to curse a little now. |

AWESOME!!! just paint the cover white before you bolt it up, use some good paint and you should never have a problem with a few heavy coats. |

Just use some ratchet straps like this or with a ladder like some here are doing
I used the little floor jack on the pulley to line up the swing arm and shock so i could bolt it up. |

I use a cherry picker (engine hoist) and some nylon webbing. It is safe, fast, and effective. I take off the seat and wrap the webbing around the seat subframe for the rear wheel, and wrap the handlebars for the front wheel. |
