Well I just narrowly escaped a hit and run. I was going to the local walmart a few minutes ago, when a 75 year old man who I later learned supposedly has demensia tries to run me over. I was coming up beside him, get right beside him, he looks over at me, slams on his gas and swerves over on top of me forcing me into oncoming traffic. Luckily there was nothing directly in front of me. He doesnt stop there however, he keeps coming over on me, now he is in the oncoming traffic as well and he is trying to hit me. I have no idea what this is about mind you. So I slam on my brakes and he goes around me. So I park my bike at the walmart, and I am irate at this point. Guess who parks beside me, the old man. So he gets out, and I am shaking mad at this point. He starts stareing at me walking into the store. So I dont really know what to do because hes like 100 years old, and then he says, How are you doing. So I lose it, start yelling at him, I told him exactly how I was doing, and he denies trying to run me over. So we are arguing there inside walmart, hes denying what happened when another 100 year old man busts him out and takes up for me and backs up what happened. So I call the cops and report, and I find out he has demensia. So hopefully they will pull his license. So becareful riding in Barboursville, W.V. |

A couple quick kicks to the door should get his attention. |

Glad you reported him. We all should do that and get folks like that off the road. |

Glad the incident was reported. Don't stop yet; contact your local Dept of Motor Veh, the drivers license folks, and see what is needed to have a driver re-tested. You may need the police report, but filling out a form and sending it in can force the state to re-examine the driver. |

Send Court a PM as well, I think he found a way to find out who carries a persons automotive insurance. A nice calm professional sounding note signed by you and your witness would likely be another excellent path towards helping an unsafe driver make necessary and uncomfortable adjustments His family may be looking for help as well... so your actions, or even a calm note to them as well, might also be valuable. They are in a tough situation. I also don't know that you can assume hostile intent. Even fully alert drivers (and motorcyclists) "go where you look". And once things start getting foobar, this tendency can completely take over. So he might have been just looking, or scared he might hit you, then started drifting, then gotten panicky and it went down hill from there... Then he was just confused and scared, which generally makes people angry. |

You have a lot more control of a bike with your feet ON the pegs. Suggestion to all is worry about survival first, before trying to lash out and kick the offending vehicle, fall over and end up under their tires. Just six years of rider course instructor speaking here, and few survival scenarios of my own. Reep offers a number of valid points. |
