I bought my 1997 S1 with the wheel lock key broken off inside the tumbler and am starting to park places where I feel I need to use it.

Anyone ever done this or know how to fix it or even who would fix it. Looks like the tumbler is welded on, so I don't think a simple locksmith would simply pop on a new one.

Thanks,
Kyle

Kyle, you do not want to use it anyway as the previous owner found out it sounds like.

Get a brake disc lock or other lock that will deter criminals. I used to run a separate switch that would kill juice to the started hidden in the body work however, I recommend an external lock.
Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-8303DPS-Disc-Bra ke/dp/B0009V1WR0

My '99 X1's lock is held in with a small Allen head screw. Not sure if the S1 is the same. If it is, take it out and maybe a locksmith can remove it.

if the key is stuck in there and you look like you may be able to get it out, use a coping saw blade. Break it so that the little pin that goes through it is no longer there.

Then with the teeth pointing to you, put the blade into the lock on top of the key, pull down and back and should remove the key.

Then use the spare or order one from Buell..

(I do not have any pics but if you google 'removing a broken key from lock' there are further step by steps...)

Kyle,if this is the lock with the sliding cover and my memory serves me right, the pin that holds the cover on also holds the tumbler in place.just need to pry the pin free to get it out.

Thanks for the input, I'ma look into getting a "coping saw blade" (has to be tiny whatever it is) to pull it out and order another.

If the tumble is bad, I won't be scared to break it trying to get it out of there.

External locks look way too dangerous to me...There is no way I'd remember its on there even if its pink, glows in the dark and has balloons tied to it.

Check out the Xena disk locks that have a built in 110db alarm. You WILL not drive away with it still attached unless you have been drinking too much to be on the bike in the first place

You run a "reminder" cord from the lock and loop it around your clutch or brake lever. Also point's it out to would be thieves so your front end doesn't get trashed.

You think they'd sell this with the lock, I know I would have trashed my bike a couple times with out it.
