If I wanted to do a TPS reset using the American Sport Bike VDST software, where would I plug into? I've looked everywhere and can't find a dongle.

Arn't they under the seat on bikes like yours. Their next to the steering neck on the tubers like mine. As a matter of fact I believe bikes like yours do their own TPS reset every time they start up. So i guess i don't know Anything!

Most likely the 99 X1.. look next to the steering head on the right side. The dongle should be just under the fuel tank up in that general area. Depending on how often it's been used you may need to fish around back there under the frame tubes to get the dongle pulled out and get more access to it.

FYI somewhere between the 99 and 02 X1's, the wiring harness changed and the dongle moved from that location to under the seat next to the ECM.

I don't have a service manual yet but I know on the XB's you have to reset the TPS whenever you change the exhaust, which I did yesterday. If what you say is in fact correct, you have saved me some time and I thank you. Can anyone confirm this?

On XB's you only have to reset your TPS when changing the ECM, not exhaust.

So...do I need to reset the TPS or leave it alone? The bike seems to be running fine.

The muffler has nothing to do with the Throttle Position Sensor.

Assuming you do it right, a TPS reset can't hurt, and its part of the 10k interval service.

Buell TPS Reset/Rezero Procedure for 2008 & later Buell XBikes and 1125R/CR motorcycles:

The Buell TPS reset for 2008, 2009, or 2010 Buell twins is simple but requires that you precisely perform the following procedure, step-by-step, exactly as described:

0. Begin with the the ignition off, key out, and the run/stop switch in the "stop/off" position.

1. Switch the Run/Stop switch to the "Run" position.

2. Insert ingition key and turn it to the "on" position. Do not start or turn over the engine.

3. Rotate the throttle grip from the closed throttle position to the wide open throttle position hold for one second then rotate back to closed position and hold for one second. Repeat that exact throttle action two more times (three total open/hold-closed/hold cycles) holding the throttle grip gently against each stop for one full second.

4. Cycle the key off and back on.

You've just completed a TPS reset for your 2008 or later Buell motorcycle. Start your bike and ride.

So this doesn't mess up the idle since the throttle isn't really fully closed?
