The book that comes with the HSR-42 has the best dissertation you are going to find about seat-of-the-pants tuning / jetting of this carb. If you don't have the book, you can download it from Mikuni's website. Kilroy |

Pick-up an air fuel ratio monitor, will be a great help in tuning. The HSR tuning guide is a great help, like Kilroy said. I have a HSR42 on a 1250, Zipper modded heads, 536 Redshift cams, CF ham can and a Vance & Hines exhaust. The carburetor has stock jetting and it is rich everywhere. Joe |

I bought the HSR42 Quick kit and found they had mistakenly installed stock Sportster jets.....it was running WAY to lean.....Installed new jets and dialed it right in. The proper jet size, I believe, came from the tuning guide (the one you can download) |
