Today I went for a short ride, and when coming to a stop the bike quit. Then the starter button acted just like the kill switch was on. Head light was bright, horn was loud, but the starter button did nothing but jump the tach a little to show I was even pressing it.
After checking all the wires I could see, I eventually pulled in the clutch for the heck of it, and it started. Then it started normally after that a few times, did it again, and then started fine for the rest of the morning. Anyone have an idea about this? I would suspect the kill switch since it killed the motor, but the clutch doesn't have anything to do with the kill switch, and I never use the kill switch anyway.

3 other switches besides the kill switch that affect the starter-neutral switch, kickstand switch, clutch switch.
good luck,

I always use the kill-switch as I'd read that it is designed for the current-interupting task involved while the ignition switch really isn't and will arc out eventually.
And pulling in the clutch is a good habit just in case you've left it in gear. (Which us S2 guys do as a matter of course.) (And the older bikes don't have a neutral kill-switch.) By Tim's comments, I gather your bike has both those "safety" interlocks, although maybe not functioning consistently on your bike.

Sounds like the clutch switch. Easy to test. Just pull the connector and see if it starts in gear. Mine went bad with similar symptoms. Just be careful when doing the test. The bike may jump forward.

I will do the jiffy stand switch first, and see if it does it again. My first S1W had the same problem, although it didn't show up the same way.
