If you find it I'll buy it and loan it out.... Time to build up my Buell tools!

Tell me about it. My dad and I just bought a $212 Jims tool (Mainshaft seal remover/installer) and it os the first of about 5 tools we'll need to complete the Ultima 6 speed conversion on his FXD.

AFAIK the hose clamp tool is a pretty standard EFI hose clamp crimper thing.

technical term : )

If you look closely enough, though (and none of my bikes are concours-restored, not by any stretch), you'll see all of them have worm-gear clamps....if they're too visible, they get a schmear of HD Texture Black touchup paint as camo.

I was planning on using the worm-gear clamps, but not completely happy about it. I checked one automotive store nearby with no luck. There's another chain that tends to have more of a tools selection. Until Frank upped the ante a bit the question was whether or not I'd stop there first or be sitting at home and deciding I needed to install hoses "now". I did a quickie check online last night. Saw anywhere from $50 to $100. There'll be a point this weekend where I'll look more closely.
I'm pretty sure I've got the one for a CV joint somewhere. The two would look good on the pegboard together. : )

Frank,
Search "stepless hose clamp" and "Oetiker". I've found some kits for $113 - $150 with more parts than necessary for individual owners like us. I've also located the bands for about $1 each, but didn't look closely at shipping costs. I found the tool separately for $50, with what is probably the same tool on ebay for $25. Let me know if you'd prefer to borrow one or have your own.

Work is going slow. It took me two tries at the front fairing and it is still not perfect.

The mirrors.

The front fender and tail section have more chips than a Vegas casino so I am still working on them.

The color is a metal flake blue.

I'm thinking of modifying some short XBR mirrors to fit.

What are you going to do about the damn rubber boots?

You can order the rubber boots by themselves. I ordered them from High Country HD. I cannot remember the price.

Any other mirror will require some modification and the ones Eric is talking about is pretty easy to modify. I like the stock ones. I think I have the file about how to do it (with part numbers) on the S2 Owners Yahoo group site.

Sigh, Frank, what are we going to do with you?
Your insanity certainly has entertained us, and I thank you for that. ; )

This project is going to be a real looker! I can't wait to see the finished bike. Neat idea to color match the mirrors, and is this the one that is going to have the turn signals hidden in the tail?

Progress is slow going but I got a little done over Thanksgiving. Without distractions of computers you can get a lot done. I still need many parts but am working through it as they come up.

Tail Section Mod:
I had to put foil in the tail lens to keep from getting bleed over from the blinkers in the brake lens.

The blinker lens cut out. The Dremel tool is a great invention.

Waiting for glue to dry.

Notice the glue dripped onto the license plate holder. I painted it hammer black latter and you can tell in the last picture, kind of. I am sick of sanding, primer and prep work. The actual painting is fun.

These suckers were not fun to put on. Soaked them in hot water then I used needle nose pliers to pull them.

The basement is full of parts, (I should have taken another picture with the restoration parts LOL) Lynn has been great and actually suggested I move everything to the basement. Something about being able to get her Buell in the garage but I really did not hear anything after she said "move the project to the basement"

The tail light and blinker worked well. I have been working through several handle bar control systems to make one good set (read that functional not pretty). I am not sure if I am crazy about the blue color. I did it with a spray can since I know I will do it again properly once I get the right equipment and make a paint booth.

I have not been on the badweb much and should explain; I am a little disappointed in the way some of the threads have gone. I got a call from a friend of mine and he was upset about some racist remarks or joke or something so I have been silent as well. Of course none of that crap happens in the Old School section. Why is that?

While I was working on this bike I was thinking about a lot of members that are not on this site anymore that actually contributed to the overall welfare of the Buell community. I miss those guys. I am thankful for all the phone calls I got last weekend talking about S2 prices, signature series reproduction and how S3 isolators do not fit on a S2 and ultimately at the urging of someone wiser than me I decided to update this thread.

My presence will still be limited as I find I have very little in common with many Buellers these days. Actually, I feel that I have contributed nothing useful to the badweb in a while so that is a sign it is time to go.

As I get older I realize I have very little tolerance for a$$holes and liars. I admire people that can put up with it, I cannot.

I hope that the next time I post it will be in the for sale section with parts from the donor bike (S1W).

Frank

Frank,
Your oil tank and rims looks SWEET! That took some time and elbow grease.
I think you might warm up to the color if you shoot a coat of clear over it, that will bring out the gloss.
Very nice job with the turn signals, if you don't mind, I think I would like to copy that on my white S2.
The mirrors look good also, that was a good idea, painting them to match. I've never been able to get my boots to fit properly on ANY of my S2's.

Don't let the new guys get to ya Frank, you are a good man, and I enjoy reading what you have to say.
I developed that low tolerance for idiots about 10 years ago, after I retired. I try not to say too much on the web, as I am very opinionated, and have old school values.
Great work on the project, I can't wait to see it when it's finished.
Are you going to be riding this one to the Texas gathering?

Frank, you seem like the most upbeat fellow on here, have you been spending time on the 1125 page? It can get interesting to say the least. I have been spending my time there since I bought an R. My S2T has been parked needs rebuilding, now its winter and she is underway, in hopes of riding to homecoming 2010. I have always wonted to go to the S2 gatherings but due to no vacation or a variety of other excesses it has not worked out. I have to admit it is more factual and less B.S. on the old school side. We can't have the keeper of S2 info bumming!

Scott, Bart and John. Thanks, it has just been frustrating so I am not to venture from the Old School section and the Colorado section from now on.

Angelo, I made that gun cabinet right after I retired and have decided to get a safe one of these days... It was a fun project but I know why I am not a carpenter...LOL

Scott, you hit it on the head. The 1125 threads have some maturing before they become viable. Just like the Uly section went through.

Bart, in a few years all the non-hackers will be eliminated. The problems are caused by just a few people. Funny how that works. I remember going through 1st Sgt School and the instructor said that 90 percent of your time will be dealing with 10 percent of the people. Little did I know that he was dead on.

BTW Scott, I tried to do a search but was got the blank white screen but I think I recall a thread talking about that swingarm conversion. My thought is simple. If it violates the functionality of the design then it is best not to do it. I do not know if that is the case or not.

I have some more things in store for the custom S2 while still collecting parts for the restoration. Of course a lot of parts for the restoration I am buying new, while I can. The custom is using spare parts that I have laying around.

I have not been banned, yet! Actually I would not blame anyone for suggesting I be banned for some of the threads I let myself get dragged into. It is a poor character flaw on my part. But there are times when I have to count to ten, re-word comments, delete post and generally walk anyway. I really think the BadWeb, with or without me, will grow and be more valuable to us than we can imagine.

Without the Old School section, Tail Section the KV and the Storm Fronts it would look very similar to lesser sites.

Bottom line is if I can deal with the VA Hospital I should be ok here on the BadWeb. I just need a break from many things.

S2s rock but the riders are the best.

With the custom bike is nice not to worry about what is correct and what is not.

I got some handlebar controls for Al (leftcoastal) that I think were from a Harley Fatboy or something. They were in very bad shape and did not work until I cleaned them up but the price was right (thanks Al).

I made several mistakes today and had to repaint a few times but here is one of them. I love this sh1t.
