While getting everything together on the front mount I started to tidy up the wiring and decided to reinstall the exhaust system too. Man those metal fiber exhaust gaskets are a pain. Anyway, when I removed the muffler I left the clamp on. Today while reinstalling I pulled the clamp and WTF? About an area 1 1/2" deep by 1" of the muffler side of the connection had burned away from the exhaust heat/jet cutting action from a leak. I know it's a metal to metal connection, but this thing must have been leaking for quite some time. It's the 2 1/2" Buell race system. So now what? I think I'll bring the muffler into a shop and see if they can either cut off and replace the damaged receiver end or maybe cut off the damaged end and make a coupling of some sort and use two clamps.

Oh, I have one of those old Bullett mufflers, but the mounting hole on the front tab doesn't match up with the rubber isolated mount. Too bad as I've wondered how it sounds/performs.

Safe ride,

Gary, DPG
