Have you changed your primary fluid this year? Maybe you could have over filled it a little bit. Other than that I have no idea. Good luck. Matt Tully

How's the engine oil level.

There have been many post on bad primary crank seals being the cause this symptom.

Jersey_thunder:

This occurs when the flywheel sprocket shaft oil seal goes bad ...

Causes of seal to go bad are old age ...

Premature cause/causes are heat, ie: improper adjustment on primary chain(should be 3/4 inch on tight spot), getting the last electron out of an old battery(altinator get very hot pushing electrons into a should be replaced battery), and running to little oil in transmission( with bike as perfectly up right as possible, oil should just come up to the bottom of clutch diaphrag}m spring) ...

getting the last electron out of an old battery

I hadn't heard that one. It's certainly something I'm guilty of. Guess I'll have to watch that.

I always thought the primary cause was overfilling the oil.

if it's your main seal then it's not too bad to replace. A service manual is worth it's weight in gold when getting into that (and any other) area of the engine though.

You'll need a long breaker bar and socket in order to break the nut loose that was installed with 200 ft/lbs of torque and red loctite : )

And the clutch tool, and the locking bar and the seal installation tool. All simple and cheap of course.
