I have seen the ram mount and I saw on at homecoming that used a metal plate mounted to the top of the brake fluid canister with longer screws. | ||

the pic shows for me.. oh well, it's a Magellan Roadmate 5310 in case anyone can't see the pic. My first GPS and it's not weatherproof, but it didn't cost $700+ like the units that Buell/HD sell so I like it. Besides - one zip lock bag and it's weatherproofed without hindering the touch screen functions. For the mounting - Since the X1 doesn't have much of a fairing, I personally wouldn't want to mount a GPS on the bars and risk it getting hit by a rock or bird. | ||

Or you can get the Garmin Quest like I have, and use the Buell Ulysses mounting system (bracket, cradle, power lead, and spacers) that mounts the GPS to the right switch housing, using the brake master cylinder clamp screws. AFAIK it's the same spacing as a late tuber. I have a parts list somewhere, but you need to get 2 screws, 2 spacers, a mounting plate, the cradle with power cord, and three screws to attach the cradle to the plate. I did the same thing on my S2, but used an old FLH CB microphone mount plate since the S2 has HD controls and a 1" handlebar. | ||

I use my old TomTom using a RAM mount. I had already wired up a cigarette lighter plug for charging my cell phone and use it for the GPS also. Total cost aside from the GPS unit was less than $40. | ||

I use a RAM mount on my S2 for my iPhone 3Gs with built-in GPS and compass. I will soon be wiring a charger into the wiring so that my bike will charge my phone while I'm riding. That way I can ride for hours, listen to my iTunes, make calls, use GPS, etc, and not worry about killing my phone battery. | ||

I wired my lighter plug directly to the battery with an in-line fuse. Ran the plug under the seat. Pretty straight forward. | ||

On my S2, I wired the charger cradle (milliamps of draw, nothing significant) to the gauge cluster lighting. On with key, off with key, no dead battery. On the Uly it has a plug that goes inline to the aux outlet, no cutting required. | ||

I used an HD battery tender cable. Then went to an auto parts store and got a 2-way trailer connector and soldered that to the power cord for the Zumo. The connector is a Pico brand, p/n 0717PT. Don't know if that would transfer over to other manufacturers. | ||

I love the RAM mounts. Very well designed. I can't wait to get my S2 back together again so I can adjust the mount and start recording my rides (3GS has video recording). | ||

I use a Lowrance XOG it is cross-over GPS that seems to take the abuse of being on a bike.It is designed for road, trail and marine.The unit is weather proof.I use a Ram mount,I am planning on getting the shorter middle piece to move the mount closer to the bars.This GPS goes on sale for about $150.00 at Bass Pro and I paid $30.00(Can)for the holder and mount. http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Automotive/XOG / (Message edited by burdette on June 29, 2009) | ||
