at about 2800 rpms i hear a click and a hiss coming from what sounds like the stock airbox... at the point it is like a hiccup on the bike and forward motion hesitates for a fraction of a second... im very new to this bike and was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem. the bike has not been ran in about 10 years so maybe it has something to do with that? it doesnt happen all the time... its quite random and has happened in all gears... please help? |

Sounds like a carb rebuild is on the way. |

The big difference is the slide. One includes a lightweight plastic one and the other doesn't. Many here will tell you the Tslide is crap. I have one and I like the throttle response associated but you may find it takes more fine tuning. I have stock cams with shrink ported heads. Big cams don't like it as it sometimes gives an inconsistent steady throttle. Just go with the simple kit and it will do everything you want. It really sounds like you just need to clean your carb. Another common issue is the intake seals. Search here for much more instructions on that one. Easy cheap fix. It seems like you have had a few posts about this same problem. Did you try any of the other suggestions? What have you tried other than internet diagnosis? |

well i finally got the carb cleaned, intake switched to a forcewinder and the intake seals replaced... unfortunately i'm still having the same issue. it almost seems as though the bike is backfiring through the carb. could this be a timing issue or..? Thanks, Bob |

Well....need more information. Does it pop once, and that's it? Does it pop when you whack the throttle WOT? Or at the rpm indicated, regardless of throttle position? Your profile says V&H pipe - now you have a forcewinder. What jets are you running? Where is your mix screw set? Any other engine mods? Did you verify through the spray test that your intake seals are correct? They like to fight back...I always schmear some engine oil on mine before install to keep them from bunching and pinching (and leaking). Was the bike sitting for a while? How long? Did you just re-jet? Or disassemble and clean the whole carb? How did you clean it? I use dental picks to clean the passages if they've been sitting for a looong time - my 98 S1W had 1100 miles on it when I bought it...in '06. The pick was the only thing that would get the rock-solid varnish out of some of the spots. My guess is, you're jetted wrong and/or your mix screw is set wrong. Sounds like a lean pop to me. |
