Moved out from California to Missouri this week riding the 2000 X1 2500 miles the whole way. The front isolator took a dump out at the Kansas state line. But, this was the third front isolator i've gone through in a calender year. I went to the local shop for a replacement... Part L0501.2 or L1501.T. (one was for the tubers & big twins, the other was for the blast) Both parts looked the same (the one for the blast came with additional hardware), but looked differently from the one I mounted 2 months ago. The part at the dealership had a flat top/bottom? with a large washer incorperated into the design with no need for the original D-washer? The part no longer states "top" from bottom anymore.

Has anyone had any experience with this newer part? and is it the correct piece?

I was thinking of going with the Drag Specialties part or following up with Al at American Sport Bike for an original. Like I said, the part the dealership had looked completely different from what the prior replacements have been.

just finished up ordering the isolator with Al. Don't feel like taking chances with the dealership inventory. I have a pretty keen understanding about the failures in regaurds to the quality of rubber, and what kind of pace the bike is put through. Got a track day on the 9th, and have a host of mods and repairs after the long haul.

At what mileage are these isos failing?

I've never had problems with either of mine. Of course only ~10k miles on the '02 X1 and ~25k on the '00 X1.

Rear isos look and feel good on both too.

19K replaced the original, 22K replaced the second. 25K third needs replacing. still has original rear iso's. gone throug 2 front motor mounts (1 broken, 2nd bent and twisted, plus 5 sheared bolts), 2 rear shocks, I know the blown rear shocks are related to the frequency of the front\rear iso failures.

it seems that when people start going though front isos as often as they do socks, its time to inspect/replace the TWO rear isos.

Sfmc_x1, if you don't mind me asking, how do you ride your bike and what are the conditions of the roads? I mean, do you race the bike and/or do you have a lot of pot holes in your area? I am just trying to see if there is a consistent pattern distinguishing between the folks who have repeated failures and the ones who have had none. It looks like the mileage is not necessarily a major variable.
Thanks.

I'd say I ride the bike very, very, aggressively. Like I said, I've had a number of issues with the front of the bike between motor-mounts and isolators. The original mount went at 11K with a crack on one side and a broken bolt on the other. at about 19K the bolts broke again, but twice within 24 hours, i suspect the replacement off-brand billet motor mount was warped. I then got the heavy duty unit sold at American Sport Bike with a new hardware and a new front isolator. When I took out the original isolator it still looked to be in usable condition. The new one lasted between 2-3K. The two most recent Isolators saw a fair amount of two-up... So at 22K the last was replaced in early spring, and didnt last the 2500 mile scenic ride from Ca to MO. the bike has 26K on the clocks.

The First shock on the bike went flat at about 20K, a reputable shop claimed it was bentand unrepairable, and I replaced it with a cheap spare from ebay. The 2nd shock was questionable out the box, I knew it was a leaker after riding it one block.

Its a theory, but I believe that when a shock leaks out all its fluid and no longer has the ability to dampen the extension stroke of the suspension it increases the work load (downward forces)on the front isolator, thus creating extra fatigue and ultimately breakdown.

I agree that the shock may have some small part in this, mine was leaking and low on oil,
but the spring helps absorb some of the energy that is being transfered to the rubber mount when the shock is extending
and there is a rubber bumper in there too, that helps absorb the impacts.

Tex- has rightfully pointed up some thing that may need attention the rear isos.
