First off my bike is an 01' X1, today it started having trouble with the shifting. Specifically, when I go from 5th gear to 4th gear sometimes, my bike wouldnt fully go into 4th gear. It was stuck in a sorta neutral like gear. It isnt doing this all the time just sometimes, maybe like 5 or 6 times is all. My question is, is this a gear box/clutch problem, or is my clutch not adjusted correctly or what. Please help, any and all help greatly appreciated. Thanks alot, Matt Tully

my shifting problems started with a broken clip that holds the detent plate on it's post. i have had occasional false neutrals betrween 4th and 5th due to poor shifting technique on my part. do you have a service manual or parts book?
best luck.
tim

Smoke, yes I have a service manual, I am going to look at it today. It only happenes when I dont shift hard into 4th, if that makes sense. I can really step on it and it always seems to go in. Its only when I dont really step into it really good that it gives me that false neutral. Thanks for any help you can give me, Matthew Tully

Try blipping the throttle with the clutch pulled in before you downshift... try waiting for the rpms to drop before downshifting...

If that doesn't do it try checking your primary tension.
