I have to replace the front head gasket on my M2. Broken motor mount bolts (don't get me started LOL). I picked up a factory gasket at B. Dron's, but the holes which go over the dowel appear to be smaller than the stock gasket. I know Cometic gaskets do not use the o-ring, but does anyone know if the factory has superseded the old number/design with a new one that doesn't use the o-ring. I can't imagine that o-ring stretches out the tighter dowel hole. If there ws a change is there a different torque spec too? Safe ride, Gary in Oaktown |

dont even get me started about this. I just went through the same thing on my X1. I got all the parts from harley including the factory head gasket and o-rings. People were telling me that the o-ring goes on the dowel and then the head gasket ontop of that. I was told the o-ring should fit inside the gasket hole... which mine did not. BUT... then i removed my old head gasket it was the same way. Head gasket over the o-ring. I then torqued to spec as the manual says and the new head gasket leaked like crazy! I gave up and ordered the Cometic MLS gaskets. Just finished installing and worked great! I will never go back to stock gaskets again. As suggested, i also did the base gasket at the same time and was pretty simple. Good Luck! |

I found out the hard way that the factory gaskets now need NO-O-Ring. They made a change sometime in the past and I found out because my dyslexia read the instructions as o-rings needed when in reality it read "NO o-rings needed". I saw what I expected to find and had to do job over. Will not make that mistake again!! |

Jims the man. I won't use stock HD parts if i can help it. I did this the first time my front head dropped a valve and i re-built it. The re-do is not something to be doing twice, I was just happy it was the front and not the rear. |

Thanks guys! Giving a counter guy a part number is no guarantee he knows about the part itself. When I did the 1250 kit on my Sportster I used the Cometic kit Nallin included. All should be good now. That is... I'm contemplating the NHRS mount now too. Hard to justify spending a lot of money on a problem that may turn up again! |

I traded dan-NRHS a new xb head for a built xl head and he gave me a discount! The mount is very nice and noticeably stronger and is just about the same weight as the stocker |

Is the NRHS mount the same one sold at American Sport Bike? Any real difference or preference? Same price so I'd place an order with American Sport Bike that includes a couple of items I've been meaning to get from them. I couldn't get both snapped bolts out of my original head and ended up with a pair of heads off eBay to expedite the repairs. Might have a shop laser out the remaining bolt and then sell the extra pair for use on a Sportster. Safe ride, Gary in Oaktown |
